What's Your Profession?

I work mainly work with foreigners. I translate their nomenclature to something that makes sense and then proceed to sell them what they are really asking for. I always charge them too much and they never have to pay tax. Also everything is built exactly the same so the manufacture of their make and model doesn't matter.

I am what they call, a Parts Counterman at a Freightliner dealer.

Funny story - In the mid-1980s I worked as an auto mechanic at a shop which was attached to a parts store owned by the same asshole I worked for.

One day I went up to the parts counter to to pick up something for a repair that I was working on, and had to wait behind the counter for a minute because a customer had just walked in.

It was a lady in her late 30s to early 40's, wearing a yellow sun dress. (and this was in Mobile, AL, so imagine this exchange in a deep "southern belle" accent.

She walks up to the counter and says to the parts guy - "I need a radiator hose for a yellow Oldsmobile."

Parts guy replies (without missing a beat) "Sure thing. Did that car come from the factory with whitewall tires or the spoked hubcaps?"

She says "Whitewall tires."

Parts guy goes and grabs a universal radiator hose.

After she pays and leaves, I am just standing there staring at him. He says "What???? Would she have known???"

Still shaking my head.....
