Anyone getting exhaust and tunes afraid of voided warranties? I was told by my dealer that depending on the exhaust, it may void my warranty. Is that true?

Also, I was told if I added an aftermarket navigation or stereo, it WILL void my warranty. Is that true as well?

Read the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act.

Read the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act.

This. If they do bring up voiding your warranty for aftermarket parts tell them the magnusson moss warranty act would like to have a word with them.

Thanks. I am well aware of this act. I guess not to the extent you guys do. Just trying to get some verification here. So, I guess you guys are telling me that they are bull shitting. They need to prove that the aftermarket parts caused the problem? Aftermarket nav, stereo, exhaust, tune, etc.

yes they would have to prove without any doubts that the aftermarket part was the cause of a failure.

considering that it's difficult enough to get warranty work done on a simple brake squeal TSB like some guys are having, i would probably avoid anything else that may question your warranty eligibility.

u gotta pay to play

Just my lack of knowledge, but wouldn't you have to sue Ford to get your claim covered if they denied you?

If so, I am sure that your costs for expert witnesses, independent analysis of the failure, etc to counter their analysis and experts will run you a lot of money. While I believe the law may allow you to recover reasonable costs (based on wikipedia information, you need to verify with a lawyer specializing in this type of law if you are considering moving forward in a suit), you would probably need to pay these costs up front and only be able to recover these costs if you win. (again, verify with a lawyer).

I would be very careful about certain things....exhausts, probably not...a tune, well, that's another kettle of fish.

Has anyone here actually used this act and successfully overturned a denied warranty claim? If so, what was your experience?

Excellent point. I was just thinking about this.

I think you'll find 3 groups of people on this:Group 1 couldn't care less about their warranty and mod away, Group 2 might worry about a mod voiding their warranty and mod but just play the odds and hope nothing major happens and Group 3 worries about voiding their warranty and won't mod until it expires.
I fall into Group 2. I'll mod and just take my chances. I know my dealer well enough that if I add an exhaust and the weatherstripping around the passenger door leaks, they'll fix it under warranty. I know I'm not taking my car so far from stock that it should screw up anything so I'm playing the odds. If you're comfortable playing the odds then you'll mod. If not then don't.

My first purchase was a MF cat back, but that and the CAI and the hood struts and the LED lights for the trunk and reverse light all went in the same day... they were all purchased while I was waiting for delivery.
