What Spray Gel To Use Installing Stripes

I'm going to install these stripes myself so I need your help with a list of materials/brands to use. Squeegee, Cleaner prep, Spray Gel, etc. I read somewhere spray gel is the best so please educate me! :cheers:

I thought that you just spray water down. I have never done it before but am probably going to do it myself.

Just a mix of hand soap and water in a spray bottle. Nothing special needed. For a squeegee just use a credit card. Oh and clean the car well. Use dish detergent for wash to take the wax off. Lay down the stripes and then rewax the car.

Can you wax over the stripes ok? Does it leave a white line the length of the graphic? You can see this on the factory side stripe graphic on my 2011. Is there a way to get rid of this?

when i installed my stripes i just use soap mixed in water

Literally just a couple drops of dish soap in the spray bottle with water.

And use a clear wax, like Turtlewax Ice or similar. Or use a good polish/sealer.

I bought like 10 bottles of Turtle Wax Ice clear (the older version without the carnuba) for exactly this reason. It rocks and you can get it anywhere on the car with no residue, even the black plastic.

I always used J&J Baby shampoo for tint, stripes, etc. 3-4 drops to a quart of water. Someone far better than me once told me about this, and that's all I've used since.

OK, I have that. The only reason I asked about the spray gel is because someone said it gives you extra time to work...and since I've never done this I figured I need that.

I've heard of it and heard the same claims, but I have no experience with it, so I can't say anything. This is the stuff I was told about: Slide-On

OK, I have that. The only reason I asked about the spray gel is because someone said it gives you extra time to work...and since I've never done this I figured I need that.

I used the spray they sell for applying graphics once and found that it did just the opposite. Once you squeegee it down it is down for good.

I use a few drops of dish soap in a spray bottle now. It takes longer to set but I am not in a rush.

We recommend using water only, you can use as much as you want & it won't damage anything. If you get too much soap, then the vinyl won't stick well. We use an alcohol based solution we mix with water at our shop, this helps the water evaporate quicker for faster installs. It would make an inexperienced install tricky for that reason. We supply a squeege with a felt cover on one side for free with all of our stripe kits. We also provide instructions, phone support during business hours (email after hours) & we will sell parts of a kit if you make a mistake (instead of having to buy a complete second kit). We install stripes almost daily at our shop on Mustangs (no signs or wraps, just stripe kits) & will answer all questions about our kits before & after purchase.

Good info! How about clean prepping? Someone mentioned Windex...

Windex works well since it has alcohol which removes wax, oil, etc. Just be sure to rinse the car off with water afterwards, that will remove any Ammonia left over from the Windex (Ammonia isn't good for vinyl).

After the stripes cure (takes about 3 to 5 days) you can use spray detailer/spray wax on the car & the stripes. The spray detailer will help avoid water spots, bird droppings, dead bugs, road grime and other junk from sticking to the vinyl. We use Maguire's Ultimate Quik Detailer, we have been using it for several years and there is no long term damage to matte colors. After washing the car, I'll wipe it down with the detailer on a micro fiber towel. Actually helps a lot and I don't have to wash the car as much.
