As many at Ford has said that the Mustang platform is for customization to its owners they have always offered a variety of specialty models. I've heard rumors of Ford releasing a GT350 in the S550. What other models will they release? Maybe a new California Special? a Boss302? GT500? Bullit? What does everybody think?

Here's what I'm expecting based on the noise level of various rumors.

- GT350, is a lock it seems, guessing 2016 since it's already been spied testing at SVT hq's.

- Mach 1, I think is very likely perhaps for 2018? Just based on noise level and the trademark filing (which admittedly doesn't mean much)

- Boss 302, just ended a limited run. I don't think we see a S550 based B302. There's other names they can use.

- Bullitt, would be cool and I think it works well with the S550 design. I noticed in some of the NY event pics they had pics of Steve McQueen too. Why not?

- GT500, expecting this to be post-title from Shelby. We haven't heard much about this so maybe it's not for a while.

- California Special, I think Ford will get rid of this. The origins of this whole regional-specific special don't make sense in the Ford of today with emphasis on One Ford and global playing field.

Also.....

- What about bringing back the Cobra name?

- Better yet, time for some new nameplates.

I'd love to see a Mach 1 positioned where the boss was and then top tier SVT Cobra dropping the Shelby name. IMO the price gap is too big between the GT and GT500 to not have something in between the two.

I'll be looking out for both GT350 and Mach 1... hope it goes into fruition.

I have my fingers crossed on this scenario here. I was told Ford is keeping it simple this time around. They intend to introduce the main lineup over the course of the next few years. The V8 in general will be identified as a "GT" of some sort.

I'm hoping SVT and Ford Racing start out with the GT350. They need a Boss 302 replacement and Shelby America dropped the GT350 from the package list so, it all looks like it could be. The GT350 could have an even more advanced, higher output Coyote. Hopefully NA but with the Z06 going FI, who knows...

For the sake of Motorsport, the GT350 will remain competitive in most organizations. I don't think it will be force induction. Eventually, Ford can release a radical version, either more stripped down (Laguna Seca) or put crazy illegal but exotic equipment on it (z28). A GT350.R could be the Ford Racing version of the SVT car...

In 2017, the GT500 will return... and if competition gets tough, the GT500KR will follow in 2018. I wouldn't mind if the "King of the Road" package was the SVT/FR Track Pack for the GT500 in '17.

However, I think the first Ecoboost 5.0 Concept will be called the Mach 1... Not sure if it will be called that in production. That Eco5.0 could be the GT500's engine...

2015 GT350
2016 GT350.R
2017 GT500
2018 GT500KR

There are also opportunities to push a special Eco2.3 model. I am waiting to hear an official badge/nameplate for the Ecoboost Mustang. I say use the "ST" scheme for Eco4 and Eco6 Mustang's. ST4 and ST6 (Future Eco3.5 hopefully).

I am hoping the Mach 1 is the Twin Turbo 3.5 ;)

I want to see an amped up version of the Track Package, similar in concept to the 1LE in that it is directly made for track use from top to bottom but also without the 'special edition' feel and markups that came with the Boss. I want to see a true track pack with agressive wheels/tires, brakes, suspension, basically everything that an owner would otherwise have to mod, but leave out tacky graphics or decals and keep the price focused on practicality and not collector status.

Then I want to see the Cobra return with an Ecoboost Coyote and some fat tires. I want it to chase Corvettes by any means possible while staying about $10k cheaper. I don't really care if it is indeed faster than a Corvette, just make it clear that the Camaro doesn't even deserve to be on the same road or track as the Cobra. Adjustable suspension, hardcore brakes, serious aero, unflinching attitude. Make it go an honest 200mph, optional ceramic brakes, coolers for everything(brakes, trans, diff, so on), sky-high tuning potential.

Bring the GT350 as a nearly stripped down, street legal track car at least as agressive as the outgoing Laguna Seca. Have it only come in White/Blue stripes. Have the GT350.R as the turn-key race car with a serial # instead of a VIN.

I am thinking a 3.5 ecoboost engine car will likely be a good fit for a GT350 hence the names and the power that this engine can produce. Then to setup the GT500 I new 5.0 ecoboost would be awesome!

From a marketing perspective, I would look for a possible "new" BULLITT with the 2018 model year, the 50th anniversary of the movie.

That has a certain logical consistency, although a 5.5 EB Coyote for the S550 (GT550 ?) would be even more awesome !

I'm not opposed to them changing the name up to GT550 or GT600. Kind of an evolution of the product, similar to what Nissan did with the Z car.
240Z, 260Z, 280Z, etc, etc.

I know the GT350 and GT500 names have a lot of heritage behind them, but most people who don't know about these cars think it has something to do with the horsepower level.

Either way I hope they come out with an SE a lot earlier then 2016. I'm ready to trade mine in now.
