I'd start with a tune, especially since the EB is so conservative from Ford

Nick C.

Exactly why I went tune first. It's the same thing I did on my GTI.

Just like the others, go with the tune. Downpipe and Intercooler should be second on the list. If you want to go a little further you can always upgrade to a turbo kit!

I am exact opposite of everyone apparently, bolt ons, then tune. you don't show up and get a tune then add a bunch of parts. You get a tune based around your build.
I was starting to wonder if I was crazy for thinking the same way. Especially given that most of the mods don't require a tune. My plan is this: intake > catback > FMIC / charge pipes / bov > tune. But, I may switch the catback and FMIC.

If you get an E-tune from me, you will get tune adjustments as long as you own your EBM. So if you add intake, exhaust, intercooler, change fuels, or even a turbo kit I will make tune adjustments accordingly. That way, you CAN start with a tune which has the biggest impact on your vehicle's performance. Beyond its benefits of positive facial expressions, it is a great diagnostic tool if you ever have any hiccups down the road. I have diagnosed a few members slight issues using the Accessport. It is worth it's weight in gold and more!

The mods aren't going to do much of anything but make power delivery more consistent and throttle response and similar better without a tune. These are load based tunes with torque management. Without adjusting the torque targets via a tune, you're just making the car more efficient to hit the stock targets.

I will admit that my mentality about tuning is probably a little outdated. The last tuned car I had was my DiabloSport equipped 2000 Focus. Back then it wasn't asv easy as it seems to be today to re-tune.

That being said, my main reason for not getting a tune first is because I am waiting to see what Ford Racing comes out with.

My thinking is get a tune first, then do individual bolt ons. MAPerformance says it best that after you start adding upgraded items, the tune can be redone to accommodate the bolt on items. A tune is great bang for the buck too.

Not entirely true, the factory torque limits aren't being hit 100% so modifications without a tune will net you some HP and TQ gains, it will just be limited to roughly 20hp/30tq peak. The tune essentially allows the car to access 100% of the bolt-on's potential.

I agree with you that that mods without tune will net you consistent power, and smoother power delivery!

That's essentially what I meant. They'll make some over stock, but nothing like they will when accounted for through a tune.
