empty, sans my work back pack every day to and from home.

It is easier to put stuff in the trunk vs geting a bag to the back seat

Go to Home Depot and buy a 12" x 16" x 4.5" plastic storage box (they'll be in one of the tool aisles). The Husky brand one comes with a bunch of little storage containers inside, that when you remove will leave you all the room you're likely to ever need for wrenches, screwdrivers, ratchets, extensions, sockets, and your wheel key, maybe a hammer and a cheater bar for the ratchet, and most any other little thing you might find a need for. The lid latches in place, and you probably can't tip it over without tipping the entire car over.

I've heard that you can stick some Velcro strips to the bottom of most tool boxes so they won't slide around under any reasonably normal maneuving (haven't tried this, don't need it because there's no bare floor space in my car's trunk for it to slide on anyway).

Well, I meant more about the idea of it mounted to the trunk lid itself.

The actual trunk cavity normally carries my backpack.

Other items (all stored under the Loyd trunk mat) include my spare and jack (freaking $175 - stupid, but the spare is alloy, rad!) small socket set, small box-end wrench set, gore-tex parka, adjustable wrench, adjustable pliers, leatherman, jumper cables, small multi-pry bar, emergency blanket, and flashlight.

Too much ! Everytime i hit it hard from a digg it sounds like my driveshaft is hitting the body but it's the stuff i have down where a spare tire would go bouncing all over the place. It's not much either....tire plug kit, factory air pump, umbrella , insect repellent, flashlight and microfiber clothes.

In the empty spare tire well I carry the junky compressor/goo kit, an amp & interface for the sub; and in the trunk itself, a blanket, rarely-needed umbrella, and this organizer:

One of my smartest purchases ever, and it fits perfectly up against the S550's rear seats. Put your car detail stuff in it, sports stuff, tools, groceries, whatever...it doesn't slide all over the rubber trunk mat while driving. Folds up flat when you don't need it.

(I carry a box of tissues and a pair of flip flops in the back seat.)

I have a good bicycle pump in the trunk in case the plug and play air compressor doesn't work.

That looks pretty interesting. Could you post a picture of it in your trunk so we can get a better look at the scale? Thanks!!!
