If you guys think that's a safety precaution so that the plastic grill doesn't hit the windshield at high speeds, Ford engineers might want to rethink how it's attached.

Not commenting on its effectiveness. However, Ford's intent is unquestionable.

Can't argue with Jamal. I assumed it was just a stud with a through-hole and in such a case the lanyard would be completely useless.
So I took the nut off to have a look....
