What if Ford brought out a "special" Ecoboost - like it - yes or no thoughts?

I think it would be ballsy of them to bring the SVO badge back. That would be cool, but it would need to pay homage to the original somehow.

131 views and 1 response - I was hoping for a little more input - I've had several positive comments at car cruise-ins ----- I also thought about the SVO when I did this to the car - i always thought that was a very cool car and under-rated too.

I would trade my GT in a heart beat......though I doubt Ford will do it.
But Ford would have to do it right. The 84-86 SVO was ahead of its time, out handling the the other models right out the door and with very little tuning could out run the GT of the time.
My 86 SVO mustang is faster than my 17 Mustang GT by a lot! It’s almost 1000 pounds lighter and makes 575.4hp at the wheels.
I think a new SVO model would need the potential for huge increases in power, the old iron block is good for 800 hp, so the new one would need a strong closed or semi closed block with the “potential”, a killer suspension, special wheels, etc....think something like a 350 GT with an upgraded 4 cylinder turbo and SVO specific styling on the exterior.

Do you guys think others will know that the 2.3 T badges I put on my car are from the SVO?

I really like the badges. Always wanted to add them to my 15 EB. The strip is not my thing, but, it’s your car not mine. Kudos for trying something different.

@kent0464

Is that YOUR SVO pictured? How about some more info and pics!?!!

I also owned (2) prior SVO’s - an 84 (silver) and an 85 (black). Great cars and these days very hard to find in very good condition. They just didn’t get the respect back when introduced because Ford marketed them totally wrong and the Dealerships were not educated about the full potential of the SVO when comparing it to its GT counterpart of the time.

The SVO introduced many Mustang firsts, many of which were carried over to later production models (years later). The SVO also could hold its own against a stock GT of the same model year in a straight line and out maneuver it in the twistys or road course events.

And here’s the answer as to why Ford won’t bring back “SVO”:

Yes Sir, that is my SVO, there’s a couple more pictures of it in my “garage”, and a partial parts list, makes 575.4hp to the wheels with current tune, will be hitting the 1/4 mile with it next spring.
If you’d like to know more just let me know.

Here’s more to the up and coming 2020 EB HiPo for those who missed the original M6G thread:

A 20 hp increase is pathetic. All they had to do was increase the compressor wheel size. They should have gave it a 50 hp difference at least. For the cost the high performance version of the ecoboost just isn't worth it imo. You are better off getting the standard 2.3T model and modding it yourself.

The HPP is more than just 20HP. My guess is that the dyno will show more.

It’s not just the horsepower gains over the standard 2.3-liter EcoBoost, it’s the broader torque curve that delivers 90 percent of peak torque between 2,500 and 5,300 rpm, which is 40 percent wider than the base EcoBoost engine,” said Widmann. “Plus, horsepower holds stronger up to the 6,500-rpm redline – enabling more usable power and torque for enthusiasts and weekend autocrossers to enjoy.”

I see an SVO every day needs some TLC but looks good.

I'd have probably bought a new SVO if it was basically a tweaked Focus RS engine(thinking 375 range), and PP2 level suspension with a hood that made a tasteful nod to the SVO scoop.
