I watched lots of reviews, but I was honestly surprised at how much louder it is with the H-pipe. Quiet mode still works well but it gets pretty rowdy pretty quick now.

Yeah, I agree. The Roush H-pipe I installed made the car quite a bit noisier - much more than I expected.

I start my car in quiet mode all the time, and people still jump a bit, even though I warn them.
Cold starts are a bit nasty.

I concur. Both the overall jump in volume and, especially on cold starts, a hint of raspyness. I have the AE system.

I swapped active mufflers on mine too. I only start it in quiet mode. Once the car warms up a little though it sound great.
