What can beat a 1989 Skyline?

Production cars only. I hear tuners all the time say that the R32 was the fastest car ever made at the time. Same for the R34 too I suppose. Stock for stock, what can beat the Skylines of the same time period?

The only production car I can think of for the U.S. is the Corvette and that made an abysmal 240hp against the R32s 312 AWD.

It depends on what you mean ,the fastest ? . The R 32 did the standing 1/4 mile in 13.1 @ 108 mph stock . Top speed might have been speed limited I think .

I got 312hp from Wikipedia. The internet never lies. Is the Corvette the only U.S. production car that could beat the R32 on a road course?

The skyline suffered from an “exotic hero car effect”...

the 5.0 mustang made 225hp and could be bought on any street corner.

the skyline made over 300 once you pulled out the boost restrictor, and couldn’t even be brought to the US unless you snuck it in (until 25 years later)...hence the exotic car effect

the skyline also made it into video games early on...thus the hero car multiplier.

Don’t you dare believe that 276 hp crap. Back in the late 80s early 90s the Japanese auto makers made an agreement that no car would be rated higher than 276 hp for safety reasons. The WRX the skyline and the Evo we’re all much faster than that.
