Anyone else notice on their Mustang that water pools around the trunk area? Noticed it when I was drying the car off after washing it. I figured it would drain somewhere, but it just sits there.

I spy a leaf in the second photo.......there could be more ;)

Seems to soon for drain holes to be blocked, but I guess its possible. At least, I assume there will be drain holes there!

well you are forcing water there when cleaning it.

Yeah I took the car to work yesterday and parked under a tree, but pooled as well last time I washed it (it was still a leaf virgin).

Not necessarily. Since I use the "Shower" setting on the hose, you could reasonably assume the same would occur if you were to leave it out in the rain.

Well, that doesn't bode well for restoring these things in 30 years time! Didn't Ford learn from the '65 models and their leaky cowls causing major rust? :p

But, that IS a concern though........and shouldn't be right. I wonder if the drain tubes are blocked or twisted? Guess you won't know without dismantling the rear of the car :(

I too have noticed this "quirk" when washing the little woman's GT. I surmise the water is intended to run down behind the tail lights through the seam between the black plastic and the metal. The lack of a hole or gap there suggests the plastic injection mold die wasn't properly manufactured in this area. Twenty bucks says Ford engineers will quietly change the mold at some point in the future. Us early adopters will just have to dry the area by hand. It's no big deal, that area should be washed, dried, and waxed, just like the rest of the car anyways.

Every Mustang I've owned does/did this all they from the '66 that I still have. (maybe not as bad as your right side, but that looks mostly like suds)

I would just use a microfiber around the trunk after I washed the car.

My 03 does the same thing, and that's what I do.

It's really annoying because it gets so dirty and with the way the car is designed it can be really hard to get around the whole trunk.

By the way, it's 12 years old with over 100K miles on it, no issues back there! Just a lot of dirt sometimes.

The drainplug could be clogged. It's happened to me in my S197.

My BMW did the same thing. Always made it a point to dry that area otherwise it would end up on the bumper.

That's not pooling. You used too much soap, or didn't rinse well enough. The suds just need to be rinsed out. Take you hose and gently rinse the soap out from behind the tail lights and all will be well.
