Well I didn’t end up washing my car as the wife had it so I “practiced” on her car. Hah.
She has no coating on her car but I am pretty happy with the results. I picked up a cheap foam cannon thing for a normal hose and it’s as useless as I’d imagined. It’s no good at covering the car in foam but you could probably use it with a single bucket to spray the shampoo on the car as you wash and just use a rinse bucket for your was mitt/pad.
Anyways I ended up washing the car with Gyeon Bathe and then coated the car with Gyeon Wet Coat. I also purchased a Bigboi Buddy Jnr today so backed the car into the garage and dried the car off mostly using the air dryer. I then used the Gyeon Quick Detailer to finish off drying the car.
Not sure if I’m meant to use the Wet Coat and Quick Detailer or not? Does one cancel the other or do they both do the same thing? Took me about 2 hours all up and the car looked great on the light I had. Keen to see it in sunlight tomorrow.

No issues using both.

As for Q2M Quick Detailer, that will add some pop to white paint. I would also look at P&S Bead Maker or OG Drying Aid, both offer some of the highest gloss I have tried, Bead Maker in particular.

So it's happened. I'm finding myself falling down the rabbit hole. My current pressure washer won't cut it (Old Aldi thing) and I was going to get an Ozito unit from bunnings. After trying to find what fittings to use, it has been suggested I go something more mainstream. So now I'm looking at either a Bigboi WashR Flo or the Jnr version. The regular one is $330 but includes the Professional series large mouth foam cannon and the Jnr version is $211. Seems worth it to get the bigger one just coz of the foam cannon.

It's a deep, embracing rabbit hole but impossible to escape. A big mouth cannon is def worth it IMHO and a good one is $100 ish ($70 on special) so unless you need/want the attachments that come with a Gurney/Karcher that seems like an ok deal. Bowden's do a good pressure washer guide here:

To summarize, with car washing, it's all about the flow rate and not necessarily about the pressure.

The ideal figures from a pressure washer sit in the 1000 – 2000 psi range, with a flow rate of 7.5 Liters Per Minute and beyond. As mentioned, the more flow the better. For context, my Kranzle pushes 10 LPM. An entry level Karcher K2 will do 6 LPM.

I'm also a big advocate in modifying the machine to make it better suited for car washing. In particular, replacing the cumbersome stock gun/wand/nozzle with a "stubby" or short gun, this alone makes the whole process much easier, especially when cleaning wheels.

Also, unless you need them, don’t get seduced by the various attachments that get packaged with higher priced machines, think deck and gutter cleaning attachments. Ignore the soap injection crap and avoid the crappy foam cannons sold by the likes of Karcher and Gerni that are often included in "car" kits. And don't get hung up on integrated hose reels on the lower end machines, those hoses are just not pliable enough to wind up nicely.

So, what to choose?

First, think carefully about how you intend to use the machine. Do you need to set it all up in the driveway? Is wall mounting an option? Is it possible to set a machine up on a rolling cart?

Secondly, with the above considered, choose a machine that can be upgraded with the aftermarket parts mentioned above. A lot of machines have proprietary fittings that are difficult to modify or make the for a bulky install.

Here are a couple of machines that have my attention, from entry level to high end. (I have shortlisted the "Compact" Karchers because they are stripped of all the fluff)

For the KHD10 and Washr Pro, these can be wall mounted. I also like the idea of fitting them to a service cart, making them somewhat portable and easily stored.

You can then upgrade either unit to take a aftermarket short gun. Big Boi either package them with the Washr Pro, or sell them as individual items.

Thank you for again for such a detailed post. I think I’ll go with the Bigboi Washr Flo. Mostly due to budget. It seems capable for a beginner and is upgradeable and comes with the foam cannon.

Good choice. I have had a Bigboi Washr Flo for several years now. No issues with it at all despite its "low" flow rate. Early on I upgraded with the MTM Hydro Magnum 28 gun, foamer and lance. More lately I upgraded further with the MTM Kobra Jet hose. The Detailing Shed is a good source for the MTM gear and knowledge on fittings. Bigboi office is completely useless for knowledge of adaptors etc for their machines. Repco often have sales of the basic Bigboi machines.

I'm going to get some for my current daily (2016 RAV4 Cruiser in Liquid Bronze) and give it a go.

If the timeline is to believed, S650 pricing and specs (Q2 2023) must be out within the next 5 weeks, and then the proxy order can be turned into a real order. The pressure is on to decide on a colour. (Unless the dealer allows me to change my mind prior to a VIN being allocated?)
