for anyone interested, adams polishes sent an email ... says they have some sidekicks for sale cheap (usa cords) some mixed up order or something.... if anyones keen to have the cords changed, it might be an opportunity to grab one cheap!

Yeah I looked into it, might just be worthwhile buying the AU edition. A step up or step down converter is required which costs $50-60 so no real saving

Anyone using Rain-X Repellant or similar on their glass? I see that they make an all-in-one glass cleaner/repellant as well as their original treatment.

I should have had the detailer apply something long lasting but it slipped my mind at the time.

I could see this being useful in keeping the rear glass as clear as possible during rain
in order to maximise the effectiveness of the dashcam.

Anyone using Rain-X Repellant or similar on their glass?

I've coated all my glass with CarPro FlyByForte, water beads like crazy and flies off when moving, supposed to last up too 2 years and so far it's holding up well after 3/4 months.
Also using CarPro ReLoad on it's own on my Ranger windows and water reacts the same but it's need reapplying every month or so as it wears off.

I had all my glass treated with the opticoat product when I got my car done. Overall its pretty good, but I lost it on the windscreen when I got my it replaced. I have treated the new windscreen with RainX because I don't want to go back to get it re-done, and it is almost as good. Obviously it needs to be re-applied every month or so, but its still better than the standard windscreen. I'll get it opticoated when I go back for my yearly inspection.

I'm not sure it helps too much on the rear though, the airflow doesn't seem to be enough :shrug:

It certainly helps with ease of cleaning and preventing water spotting on the glass

i used the gyreon (sp) view stuff as recomended in a previous post. takes a bit to apply but it's been on about 1.5-2 months and still working great. even on the rear it deffinatly made a difference, i still just give it a wipe down each few days but the beaded water runs off easily.

Not sure if this is of interest to anyone but thought I'd share.

I'm sure you're all aware of grit guards. I already have the more common style but picked up these Chemical Guys Cyclone dirt traps from the mate of a mate very cheap as they don't fit any of the larger buckets easily available here and he didn't want to send them back.

I trimmed them back so they now fit in the bottom of our common 20l pail. Untrimmed they only go down about 2/3 the way. Now they sit underneath my orignial Grit Guard and washboard. No idea if they'll actually help but they can't hurt, especially for what I paid for them and the hour to trim 3 of them.

So this is what they look like after being reduced in size to fit.

Roughing them to size only tool a couple of min each as they're very soft plastic but that also meant the plastic melted as they were being done with the dust quickly cooling and reforming. You could pull it off but I had to go over each new little half cone individually to clean it up which as a bit of a PITA

Placed in the bottom of the bucket. Nice fit now.

Sits under the common style grit guard (and washboard in this case)

I have used the original Rain-X for years. With it applied you don't really need to use your wipers on the highway unless the rain is heavy as the water beads off. The wipers run smoother too.

I use it on the side windows and they go up and down more easily.

The rear window is easier to see out of too, as again the water beads off, mirrors too.

Just clean the windows with window cleaner before you begin. Last for months if your car is garaged and you don't obsessively wash your car too often.

Here's one for the darker colours -
I'm the kind of guy who would normally walk straight past anything with a Turtle Wax label so I was shocked when a panel beater mate suggested I try Turtle Wax Jet Black.
Basically, you buy a kit with some quick detailed, pre wax cleaner and some carnauba wax.
The point of difference is that this stuff is actually tinted black. Yes, it can be a little messy but watching this tiny stone chips disappear is great.
Highly recommended for black, magnetic and DIB. Other colours may have varying results.
Apparently the wax is quite durable also, so win win.

Duragloss Clear Coat Polish - Paint Protectant Sealant 111. Makes your car look wet, which is a good thing right? Hand applied and hand polished is fine....

Used this for the first time on the weekend and pretty happy with the results. I've always used wax in the past (and will actually try topping the Duragloss with wax) but as I've become more time poor I thought I'd try something that should last a little longer.

Did both dads dark blue Forester and my white Pajero. IMO the Durgloss looks even better on the white than it does the dark blue and given white is one of those colours that's hard to get a real wet gloss that's pretty good indicator for me that it'll work well on my Grabber Blue Mustang being a lighter colour.

That said, I don't think I'll ever buy another white car. The Pajero is my first and while it hides a lot of sins, polishing and sealing on white did my head in.

the duragloss comes up so much better with a good wax, i use Dodo Juice Supernatural Hybrid wax and it puts so much more depth into the race red, and it's wonderful seeing the rain just bead off.

Adam's Polishes

So I'm starting the journey on learning how to detail properly (I mean I have a Mustang turning up in 11 days so better pull my finger out...)

I'm currently trying out the Adam's range. Have washed, clayed, sealed and waxed using their products. I admit I'm a newbie when it comes to this but the effect on our silver Ford Kuga SUV is very encouraging. Bring on the yellow pony.

**not a fan of perm. coatings as they still swirl up and I'd prefer to just ensure the car is well waxed.

Also looking for a good tyre a rubber cleaner available locally so if anyone knows let me know! Adams is all I can find yet they charge $20 for shipping a $23 product so I won't buy it on principle.
