Vin/Build sheet decoder

Are there any vin decoders out there that will show all options on a Mustang? Haven’t found any yet so I thought I would throw this out for input. I don’t mind buying a vehicle online but I don’t trust any sellers description unless I can see for myself. That’s where the decoder comes into play.

There are several vin decoders out there for my BMW and they were greatly helpful when I was in the buying process.

Ford only puts generic info in the vin, like engine, body style, sequential serial #, etc. So your not going to find a vin decoder that gives you what your looking for, they don't exist. The tire sticker/data plate on the door jamb has a little more info, such as what gear ratio you have what the original tire size was, and paint and trim codes. If you want more info than that, then you need to get the window sticker for that car.

Ford ETIS or the Motorcraft will give complete As Built data. You could also get a Ford Dealership to run an OASIS report that will contain how the car was configured.

The online VIN decoders won’t contain all the pertinent info you’re seeking. Those decoders will only return very basic info.

Thanks for the input. It’s a shame there isn’t one out there like there is for my BMW. It list every single option on a particular vehicle. Since I bought it online it was a great factor in the buying decision.

Was looking for the same on the Mustang. Since this purchase will also probably be off the internet. Most of the newer vehicles on these auction sites are rental car returns which doesn’t bother me but I would like to know for sure exactly what options are on the vehicle before pulling the trigger. Found a site online that charges $25 plus $10 shipping for ea report!!

The VIN may not contain too much information, but it would still be nice if we knew how to interpret it. For European Fords you can find sites which explain exactly what each digit means. Like: "this digit means LHD if 0 or RHD if 1, this digit means hatckback if A, saloon if D, etc., these two digits tell you the manufacturing year and month, e.g. G for 2016 and T for December", and so on.
But I can't seem to find something like this for American VINs.

NOTE: the data presented was found online via googling and is only for the 2017 model year but displays how a Ford VIN can be pieced together.

Again, this does NOT give any insight as to all of the As Built features or what available options the car was selected with or packaged with for assembly. This type of data also changes every year, so what may be applicable to a MY 2017 breakout may not carry forward for MY years 2018, 2019, etc.

What you are displaying from BMW is exactly what is available in Ford OASIS, which is not public access.

Not sure if it’s available for the newer models, but getting Marti-Report will have all the information. He started with classics, I had one for my 03 Mach along with the build certificate. Good presentation pieces.
