Very low MPG on new Ecoboost

Hi,
I got a 2018 ecoboost last week.(new, coupe, automatic). There was already about 60 miles on it (I am not sure if it's usual?). I have been driving it in the past week, now it has about 300 miles on it now and the MPG has gone up from the initial 13 to 16. (but it also falls down some times)

When I called the dealership, they said you should wait for the break in period, and according to them, it's about 3 months or 3000 miles. Do these numbers (my current MPG, length of the break in period) sound reasonable to you guys?

Well how hard do you drive it? What rpm do you shift at if manual? Do you have the 3.55 gearing? Do you travel in a hilly area? I have an 18 eco as well and I get about 22 to 23 average, if I drive it like I stole it 17.

Thanks! I edited my original post to clarify a bit more. It's coupe, automatic, default gear (so 3.31 I believe). I have been driving it pretty smoothly, the fastest has been in the highway around, 85 mph for a few minutes only..

I understand driving habits change MPG, but the current MPG (16) is almost the same MPG as my old 07 manual GT... It is not clear to me whether I should wait for it to improve over time (because of the so-called break in period) or take it to the dealership and complain about it.. :\

2018 here... my MPG has leveled out at 29.1 for average MPG. I use Trip 2 for my reset after every refuel and last Thursday, Trip 2 had logged 30.2 MPG.

My accrued miles to date is just under 5,600.

Did you reset the mileage when you bought it? If your trip odometer hasn’t been reset you’re not gonna get an accurate measurement.

Guarantee that is your issue. Has nothing to do with break in.

I noticed this in my car. Mileage was terrible until I reset the mileage readout.

I ordered my car so whatever time it had on it was loading, unloading, etc, probably along with some idle time during prep. 13mpg on the mileage reading when I got it and improvement was very slow.

I reset it an mileage immediately started showing in the 20s.

16 Premium Vert here and I normally get 25 -27 city and 28 - 30 on the highway (on 87) and slightly less if I'm on 93. Definitely reset your trip after a fill up to get the most accurate readings.

OP, also the dealer was correct. The mpg's will improve after the engine has broken in. And, 3K miles seems to have been the magic number on all of the Fords I own, and have owned.

Like you guys suggested, I reset the mileage and it is now showing numbers in 20s. Happy now
