Why bother turning it off only to turn on google maps since it's primary purpose is navigation anyway?

I can see why he would do this. I prefer the google maps interface much more than the waze one, especially with satellite photos, etc. I wish that google would integrate the two more. They show the waze accidents on google maps, but I would like it if they let you report items and see them all on google maps.

I do prefer Google Maps too normally but when I am driving Google gives way to much info on the screen (as far as roads go and the thickness of the lines it uses to represent the roads). The reason I prefer Waze is because it doesn't show extra information you don't need that pertains to your route. It is a simpler map to look at so it doesn't take my attention away from driving. Plus, I have my sword wazer guy and getting close to getting the crown wazer :first:

google bought waze a few years ago so hopefully they'll just merge both apps
