Just wanted to chime in and say that I don't know much about cars so I am definitely reading each and every comment a few times and doing some research. This discussion has been really helpful. Thank you all.

See post #3. He already bought it. Why the HP? Probably because he wanted it. Why does it have to make sense? He will figure out what to do with the tires when he gets it.
FYI still haven't bought anything. Just carefully reading the messages here and researching and evaluating my options. Budget isn't really that big of a deal but still I don't want to overspend because I like the name. So still thinking - in no rush! :)

Thank you for all the discussion.

if you get a fully loaded gt you are gonna have basically the same car minus the stickers and name at a hell of a lower cost. you get discounts and rebates and everything else on a gt premium for example mine was 52k fully loaded top level gt and i walked out the door with it for 41.
So this is very intriguing. @Bikeman315. This is essentially -15k (plus more) off of a new Mach 1 (even if sold under invoiced). Are you suggesting I might be able to get 11/12K off of a fully loaded 52/53K Mustang GT in the bay area? That seems way too unlikely but I am planning to check more this weekend.

I doubt you'll get that in the Bay Area...bought our Yukon in Dec from San Jose, barely under MSRP

Yup. I ordered a HP M1. I might take it to the track, might not. But it struck my fancy and I want it. Fuck it, you only live once.
