So I have the base V6, so I don't have the upgraded radio. Can I use a USB drive with music on it and play it in my car?

Yes you can and it works great. Sync will find it if you say "USB"

This is my preferred method. Sound comes through crisp and clear. I have a 4 gig thumb drive plugged in and it's easy to search by artist, album, etc...

Just be careful not to use to big of a drive. I use 32 gb with no problem. I heard some with 64gb drives got corrupted

USB especially if encoded in 320kbps is a much higher quality source than satellite radio or bluetooth

Is it possible to create directories on the thumb drive for different artists?

You can do that but if your songs have the Artist, Album, Genre ect filled in then Sync will let you choose to play by those. You can use voice commands and tell Sync to play Artist ACDC for instance or Genre: Rock. You can also us the menus on the Radio to pick.

I dump all my songs to the root of my thumb drive

Love using the USB. Plug it in and forget about it.

I have a 64GB Iphone 4s with my music that just stays with the car. I sometimes pop in my current phone via the front USB though this way I've always got "my" music with me.

Will the music "randomize" similar to playing via the phone?
