I've actually had Apple confirm that the bluetooth on my model iPhone 7 Plus is crap, and they refuse to swap it with a working model (they never let you swap models with AppleCare).

Now, I'm looking for alternatives. I tried plugging the phone into the USB port, but it just says there is no music on the device.

Is there any way to play streaming music over that connection?

I have the iPhone 6 Plus and that's how I always listen to music is with it plugged into the USB on the lower console just below the engine start/stop button on my 15 with Sync 2. You're selecting USB as the input device and it shows the iPhone correct?

Are you able to play streaming music and other audio? When I plug in my phone, it says "there are no playable media files on...". I really just want to play Spotify.

Oh sorry, I don't stream, mine is all music on my phone. I don't even have anything setup to stream as I never do that.

I too have an iPhone 7 plus with music on it and I stream through USB and bluetooth all the time and I have never had a problem. Probably something else going on. You need to hook up the USB cable to the phone. Then select the USB option on the Sync 2 screen. Then fire up Spotify on your phone. You might have to change the audio option on the phone from phone to sync or whatever is listed but it should work. I use Apple Music and never had a problem. Apple Music is where it is at, Spotify is junk.

I figured it out. This is really stupid, and I hope this post helps someone in the future. You must have at least 1 song on your phone. Once I downloaded 1 song in itunes on the phone, it all started working. I've had the car for an entire year, and none of this functionality worked until now. Wow. I'm able to stream from any app. Controls work, album info works, everything.
