Hi Guys I am following this thread with some interest although I won't be tuning my car until after the warranty period unless Ford itself starts to offer something along these lines.

One thing I am noticing that may have been discussed previously is that many of the tuning video's by tuning shops always do their tests with the bonnet open. I would think the figures are not real world as we all drive on the road with the bonnet closed and the air flow figures they calibrate to would be different. I know this is not 100% on topic as this is US versus Aus tuners but with open top CAI's they would be gaining any easier air path and less heat buildup with the open bonnet affects the intake tubes less.

It does however lead to the point that it may be better to stick with a local tuner to get a more accurate end result.

I had this discussion about open v closed bonnet. Apparently that causes little to no differences as the run will be corrected per the weather station.

The main thing that tuners can do to cheat. Is putting the MAF in the fridge/freezer first.

Maybe Iam out of touch, but I notice a lot of printed dyno charts now days do not show relative temp, IAT, baro pressure and selected gear.

The easiest way to "fudge" figures was to falsify temperature, and this was evident on the print out.

As per any trade or profession, there will those that thoroughly know their job and others that may not be as specialised.
This is the same with tuners world wide.
It is not the case that U.S tuners cannot tune our cars it is the fact that they do not have immediate access to them. Therefore they cannot be specialized as our Australian tuners are on Oz Mustangs.
Optimum tuning is only ever achieved with the individual vehicle tuned on dyno to local conditions , and fuels.
This why we can always extract better performance and economy out of factory tunes when the vehicle is individually tuned on dyno.

Ive always tuned my LS cars (like my current VF) and believe you can't beat taking it to a "Local" workshop with runs on the board and have it specifically dyno tuned...not a plug n play or mail order one size fits all tune. It's worth the bit extra.

Spot on. As time goes by I suspect many Mustang owners may learn this through experience.

Hi Guys,

Just want to jump in on the difference in fuels argument. I have done some work with VOPAC in Sydney at the botany shipping terminals. This is where the bulk fuel is stored and distributed for Sydney via road tankers. VOPAK blend each fuel according to the manufacturers recipe. The only things that change between the fuel companies are the additive package for cleaning etc but the octane ratings don't vary between brands. They have very rigorous control over octane rating of the fuels during blending. If the octane rating is out by more than 0.1 the batch is rejected.

I have done 3 us tunes to the mustangs now, one on mine and 2 on customers. Very happy with the car and had no problems and suppor for other mods has been great and easy. The last car I done was actually done a pre delivery option for the local ford dealer
