I'd like to upgrade the screen.

I've researched the options and I just can't bring myself to spend $1500 (it's not THAT important to me).

My only goal is to upgrade the dash so it doesn't look like a 3 year old tried to fill in the remaining space after Ford gave it a 4" screen.

I've heard varying opinions on the "tesla" style screen.

There's a couple of simple screen/bezel upgrades around the same price point $800 or so.

Somehow i'd like to run or display waze from my phone on the center screen, is that going to require sync 3 or is there another simpler way to display it (running off my phone.)

Thanks for the help.

I have a Phoenix Android 8.1 tesla screen (the new style with control knobs and touch buttons) and it's been pretty good. It's not perfect, but certainly looks way better than the base setup and is cheaper than a Sync 3 swap. Android Auto/Apple CarPlay both work fairly well and native Android apps run great.

If you want cheaper than that you could always just mount your phone over where the base 4" screen is...

Or an iPad, if you already own a Mini, that will help keep the cost down but full disclosure, I have not tried this so I don't know how well it works but just talking about it almost has me ready to try.

Audio Designs in Florida makes an iPad or Android kit - not cheap but a lot less then the 8 IN Sync upgrade or aftermarket HU and bezel.

and if you get the WiFi integration kit, you can retain back-up camera functionality

I haven't confirmed Soundman does one for the Mustang but he does a bunch

I forgot to add that I am not a fan of the current aftermarket offerings for bezels that would let you use an aftermarket HU but you could do that approach for less the 8 IN Sync upgrade option but not a lot less, the bezels chew up $300 to $400 of the budget and then it will depend on HU choice.

I might have stepped in a bucket of isht. I bought the 8" screen with modules and console for $300 (from a friend). Now realizing tracking down all the wiring/adapters might be a bridge too far.

That's not a bad price, what Sync version? If you don't know that, what year was his?

Hextall can help you with the harness (who is on this forum assuming you don't already know - check out his Sync Upgrade thread)

I may still eventually go that way but I ended up buying the iPad kit tonight from Audio Designs, I want to play around with it from the hobbyist standpoint then if I don't like it I will sell it for a good discount and move on.
