But you're not using your phone? You plug your phone into the head unit, then use the 10" touch screen to control it. It sounds like maybe you've never actually used AA/CarPlay... It's not just your phone screen mirrored, it has special versions of apps that are optimised for use whilst driving...
It runs okay with the built in app (ZLink), and slightly better with HeadUnitReloaded (from the Play Store) though it take a bit of setting up. It's not as responsive as a standard Android Auto setup though (like with Sync 3). I'd say there's maybe 0.25s lag after tapping something. The best...
2x Blizzak LM-32 tires (255/40R19) with 9/32" (7mm) tread remaining. DOT code is 4014. Plenty of tread left, these will last a good few winters at least! These are $700 a pair brand new, grab a bargain!
Feel free to message me with any questions.

I have a Phoenix Android 8.1 tesla screen (the new style with control knobs and touch buttons) and it's been pretty good. It's not perfect, but certainly looks way better than the base setup and is cheaper than a Sync 3 swap. Android Auto/Apple CarPlay both work fairly well and native Android...
Great project and write up! I'm a little confused though, does this use the HUD module or did you make your own with new LED's? If I wanted to recreate this can I just buy the grille, HUD module and arduino and wire it up?
Not that I've found yet. That's probably something that Phoenix would have to integrate, or maybe Sergey's custom firmware could do (if he programmed it in). Using Gamepad Tester it shows that the two dials are recognised by Android as keyboard buttons, but I don't know of a way to change their...
I've just posted a thread on how to hide the A/C controls and nav bar on the screen, it's pretty easy to do and only requires a laptop and WiFi hotspot.

I thought I'd make this a new thread so it doesn't get lost, but I found a (relatively) easy way to hide the A/C controls and Nav bar on Tesla style android units WITHOUT needing to pay for any custom firmware.
Items needed:
Android head unit
Laptop
WiFi Hotspot

I've had a couple of different thoughts in the past few weeks that I wonder if anyone has ideas about:
Does anyone know of a way to access a previous years online configurators on the Ford website? I've tried through archive.org and unfortunately it doesn't work. I'd love to get the proper...
Honestly the newest Tesla radio looks great to me, sure the software isn't perfect but it's good enough for me for the price (about half the cost of a Sync 3 upgrade). There's also the Connect2 dash kit which I think looks a little better than the Metra/Scosche alternatives though it's not...
I've not figured out how to reprogram the dials, but you can reprogram the 6 touch buttons for other uses. I have the top two on the left (A/C and defroster) changed to temp up and down, so I can adjust the AC temp without the screen popping up. I just leave the AC on auto 90% of the time now...
Oh I know! It was pretty annoying. I ended up keeping the car turned off but just pressed the power to keep the radio on every 15 mins or so (or adjusted the volume every now and again to keep it from turning off).
So tonight I decided to take my car to a drive in movie, and in a moment of absent mindedness thought the dash would be a good place to put an open box of reeces pieces. Unfortunately they eventually spilled and I fear one or two may have fallen into the front windshield defroster vent. Is there...
Already tried it, just says "Please check back later". It's a 2016 GT so it should be available.
