Honestly, if the used some black bits around the GT500 knob, it would look better. The GT knob is just black with fins. I have yet sat in a GT500, so does the GT500 version feel like plastic ? Is that the issue ? Also it kind bums me out if it is plastic. I still belive they should have used a small or low shift lever.

the knob is fine. its like the media and certain political issues, its really a non issue that people want to talk about. turn it to drive it, turn it to park it. in the 2k miles ive driven, i have yet to think about the dial after im moving.

cosmetically, sure, fina black billet and be done

I would like to swap mine with something that looks better but operationally, I am in complete agreement with Steve, I've yet to think about it.

Also, I'm no expert but it FEELS like it's metal and turning it yields firm, positive detents. Heck, I bet the thing is so smart that there isn't anything you can do with it to hurt "the box."

It just works.

Now if you were to say lack of an arm rest, id agree.

Majority of the time im 2 hands on anyway , but occasionally ive found myself wanting somewhere to rest it

It is a plastic knob with a thin metal (aluminum ?) coating over it. The knob it glued over a round cylinder that goes down in the workings of the control box so unfortunately it is not like you can just pop off the knob.

I have a 2020 Explorer ST with the knob and checked out the 500 knob this weekend. They are definitely different. And for what’s its worth, the 500 knob definitely feels better and looks better. Though I agree the GT knob looks even better.

Let’s be honest, I think the real problem for most is that there is a knob to begin with. I have no problem with Ford making the knob in the GT exclusive to that car. As great as the GT500 is, it’s not the pinnacle of their performance division, the GT is. I can’t say anything bad about the knob in the GT500 itself, it serves its purpose. Honestly, I turn it to D, push the M button, and never look at it, or touch it again until until it’s time to put it in park, or reverse. This car is too dam good to care about the knob. It is what it is.

What you need a thin aluminum cover, like a press fit, that would cover the silver outer dial, but be cutout in the center to expose the gear indicator and M buttons - since the latter are black, something in a nice anodized black finish would match nicely.

There's a company, they've been posted here (Interiors area), that makes an armrest that slots into the cup holders, matches up to the center console, looks to be high quality (you can spec any materials/colors/etc)

Oh yeah, here you go:

The nice thing is just pops right out, so no permanent change to the interior (i.e., you can get your Big Gulp when you want to ... :D)

Great idea. That would be a nice if someone made a cover to go over that chrome dial. When I get a chance, I am going to etch the aluminum on that dial and then use an epoxy type of paint to change it to black. I did something similar 5 years ago on my silver aluminum front door threshold and it has never scratched or chipped. Really strong stuff. Not sure what is will look like when I am done but just want to mess around with it. I might give the place you recommended (5spurs) a call and see if I send them the dial if they can design something to cover it. I find it fun messing around with things like this.
