Hey all!

Finally built up the guts to order LTHs, and a better CAI.

This is just semantics but curiosity got the better of me.

On forums and on tuning websites I see a bunch of differences in stage 1, 2 or 3 "tuning packages" or general upgrade packages.

Can anyone clear up these definitions for me? Hehe.

Am I at 'stage 1' ? I will have a proper tune, LTH with high flow cats, full 3" catback system, steeda ultimate stop the hop kit (IRS subframe, braces, bushings the whole 9 yards), steeda proflow closed CAI.

I'm hoping to dyno 440-450 at the wheel on 100 octane (euro) gas after all is said and done, and sometime down the line finances permitting I'm hoping to get a carbon fiber drive shaft, ans carbon rims..

I will take her to the track in my country to have some fun.

(Also thinking of putting an oil catch can, and perhaps also change the oil pump gear as I've heard that's a weak link on our ponies)

Thanks everybody!

No such thing.

It's just marketing.

Cheers everybody, I suspected as much but wanted to see if there were indeed "levels" of upgrades.

Thanks!

It's just tiers of mods for marketing and such. Stage 1 would be a tune and cold air intake. Stage 2 would be intake and headers. Stage 3 would be tune, headers, intake, ported manifold, injectors and fuel pump. Same goes for suspension. It's almost like a mild, medium, or hot.

There are none, just marketing and it's different from every vendor.
Exactly ^^^

A "stage" is what you perceive it to be or how it's represented by a seller of aftermarket hop-up goods... You can modify the vehicle any which way you want to, there's no right or wrong starting, middle or ending point.

In fact, with a Mustang or similar - in the Auto Enthusiast world, there isn't any end or final stage to modding... 😁

Also - the OPG issue is blown way out of proportion on this site. If you "want" to upgrade the OPG, go with Ford Performance, period. If the car is to be used for high performance driving (where it will see sustained duration of speed/high rpm) and may have forced induction (supercharger or turbos), and has extreme horsepower - then sure upgrade the OPG. If the car is going to be driven daily or around town with sporadic WOT events for pure excitement, the OPG is really not an issue. There's many on this site who have very high miles on their Coyote 5.0 and still have the original OPG set.... If you listen to the vendors, sure, the sky is falling to put a dime in their pocket, so to them pushing the "must replace the OPG" and selling OPGs is their 'necessity'...

---
Think about it - the 5.0 Coyote is in Gen 3 and it's past and current variants (Roadrunner, VooDoo, Predator, Aluminators, etc) have been using the same OP and OPG gerotor design for YEARS now. If there was a major issue in stock form in a vehicle sold to the masses, Ford would have multiple TSB/SSM/GSB articles; plus the overall design would have been revised IF there was such a problem with the OP or OPG sets.... Tell me why the Roadrunner never had "OPG" issues? Or for that matter, any other XYZ Coyote variant?
