Do the factory front speakers have the crossovers on them or is the signal altered at the amplifier? I'd like to change my front 6.5's to the GTO's. I'll probably leave the factory mids and tweets alone.
I was thinking about that too - I already did the rear deck with 629s. Not sure if the volume balance would be off with the mids and tweets up front though with the 3 ohm woofers down below. I think this could make a much bigger difference though with bass as it seems a lot more bass comes out the fronts stock.

I may hook up a speaker to the front 6.5's to see if I get full range sound. Just hate popping the door panels off more than once.

For anyone in here who hates the limited eq on the stock radio, give the jetAudio app a try. I set the eq on my radio back to flat and used the 10 band within the app along with the am3d plug-in (10 second trial before it turns off) and it sounded so much better that I bought the "plus" version as well as the plug in. I'll still be changing my speakers out this weekend so it should be even better.

Hooked up the stock rear speaker I had lying around to the front 6.5 and there were no highs or mids. Looks like components for me!

So I just put on JBL 638's in my rear deck and first, the speaker bracket does line up for the screws but there's holes all around from the deck and the bracket. Two I have lost all my bass but it does sound more clear though.
What I am wondering is did I install these wrong? do the holes along the bracket take away all the bass? I'm pretty pissed off after bending over like an ass installing these in the rear deck.

Make sure you have the Positive and Negatives right, if you haven't already.

They could be out of phase, cancelling each other out? Try switching the negative/positive speaker wires on one of the speakers and see the effect on bass. Or then switching both to make sure they are not out of phase with other speakers in the car... Just a wild guess

I had them wired one way, they barely made a noise so I switched both of them the other way.

Hmm, maybe one is out of phase, I can't tell what is + or - from the stock base speakers. I wish I knew instead of just guessing. I'm gonna have to go back and figure it out, what a pita. :(

Just switch one of the speakers and see how it sounds. Happens to the best of us :)

If you have no bass the polarity is wrong. Once you get it right the sound difference should be obvious.

FYI the polarity is molded into the speaker case.

I looked and it's not there, my speaker molding is different than in the pics I have seen here, thats why I have been stumped trying to figure this out. I'm gonna try again after work. I wish I knew what was positive and negative from the colored wires that go to the speakers, thats all I need.

In the Stereo info sticky thread above., on the first page is a wiring diagram that includes wire colors. It was accurate for my Shaker Pro. Check it out for your rear left and right grounds.

Good luck!
