Hello; I finished the episodes available of MY MECHANICS today. This guy must have a hell of a shop. I do not know if some parts fora 74 Z car are hard to find or he just likes to make his own. He made a ball joint ball from rod stock. He made bolts and nuts. I guess I had known such can be done but had not seen it done before. The episodes stopped with rebuilding the rear end in season one.

pro or con of having both port injection and direct injection in an engine? - Search

hello; I was talking to a friend about the new straight six dual turbo Ram engine for a future pickup. He is a lifelong MoPar buyer. We got to talking direct injection. I mentioned that some engine builders use both direct and port injection such as the Coyote V8 in the Mustang and the boxer engine used by Toyota/Subaru in their sports car.

i got the part about carbon buildup on the intake valve as being a problem with direct injection but there is more to be known. The link above is among the best explanations of advantages & disadvantages of the two types of injection. it also gives some detail as to why "DUAL" injection is a good overall fix.

Picking a key thing for Coyote owners is the high RPM's that engine can run being a reason for dual injection.

I also think I now understand something which has bothered me for a while. Maybe. Some members have posted images of scored cylinder walls in a Coyote. I now suspect the direct injector spraying high pressure fuel may have washed oil off the cylinder walls as in illustrated in the video.

The video is over 20 minutes but worth the time to me. I knew much of what was presented but watching did straighten out a few things. Knock vs preignition for one thing.

A bad injector can cause bore scoring. A properly functioning direct injector will atomize fuel better than any other form of fuel delivery. You seem to have some interest in learning more about engines. If so, you should watch this:

Hello; been interested about how cars work since a child. I can recall when around nine or ten sitting n watching an uncle change the brake shoes on a set of drum brakes. I have often thought about (decades later) him blowing away the dust with his breath. This was in the 1950's back before they took asbestos out of brakes & clutches.

I know of Freiburger. I have almost all the ENGINE MASTERS episodes saved.

Thel link I referenced in a recent post stated in early DI systems the nozzle may have been pointed at cylinder walls. He implied later iterations cured that fault.

Interesting you should mention injector nozzle orientation. It reminds me that In the latest LegitStreetCars posting, it appears the spark plug must be pointed at the injector. If it's clocked too far from injector it can cause serious damage. Mercedes has service bulletins about this and it may result in denying warranty claims. I don't trust any car that uses an aluminum block with no liners, so this seems like a manufactured excuse to deny claims.

On the other hand, if you buy an unlined aluminum block engine, you should know they can have failures that rarely affect lined engines. So maybe it's justified.
