Anyone have any success installing an aftermarket amp under either front seat? I'm leaning towards a JL Audio XD600/6V2 to power my JBL GTO series front 628's/mid 329's/rear 638's.

I'm thinking under driver side since I occasionally have rear passengers with entry from passenger side and I normally slide the driver seat all the way back for myself to enter/exit the vehicle.

This would allow shorter runs of wire and cable to Molex connectors near the kick plate/factory amp on driver side. I already have the speakers installed, so just need to run some RCA's and some speed cable from the amp to the Molex connectors.

The other question is where to connect the amp ground wire if I mount it under the seat. I will bring the power wire in through grommet behind front passenger wheel.

Also planned on using a PAC TR-4 remote relay for the turn-on since its on the same factory amp connector as the left/right mids and just use one of the extra wires in the speed cable.

depends on how big the amp is..... i have mine where the spare tire would go....lots of room... ease of access for a ground....and my amp never gets hot.

I just finished installing that exact same setup but under the passenger side seat. The JL amp fits perfectly in that spot. I have the Recaros so there might be more room under there as opposed to the normal seats. There is a bolt right after the wire loom in front of the rear seat corner on the passenger side that I used for ground. I ran the speedwire and rca down the center console on the passenger side and fed it through the opening where the airbag wiring comes out of the carpet. I'll take some pics when I get home. It sounds ok but I definitely need to add a sub.

Pics would be great! I have the Premium leather seats and it looks like the amp will interfere with seat travel on either side but if the seats are stationary it will fit fine.

Did you have any trouble connecting RCA's to the black Molex connector at the factory amp? have you noticed better full range sound from the rear channel?

Thanks,

I had an audio shop do mine under the drivers seat. It's a JL sub amp, 600 watts. They attached it firmly to the carpet so as not to do any drilling. It just barely clears the power seat and very lightly touches the seat bracket as it slides by. I don't move the seat often anyways. It's been in a couple months now and works great. Sorry, I didn't get any photos.
