Installed some lighting under the hood for evening or nighttime meets or shows. I was asked to post more about the install. It's fairly simple, but works really well.

I used lights just like these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/191780316995

I tapped into two always hot fuses (10A) with a couple add-a-fuse taps. One is power to the switch for the relay coil and the other is power for the lights through the relay.

I mounted the Bosch style 30A relay under the radiator cover on the passenger side, using an existing bolt.

I mounted the switch to the radiator cover just above the relay. This was a leftover switch I had laying around, but it was purchased on ebay.

I mounted the lights to the hood on an angled part towards the front. Checked for clearance and all is good. I'm sure there are many other locations where they can be mounted.

Wiring is pretty straight forward. The switch controls the relay coil and I am using the normally open contacts. Power is sent to the lights through the relay. I ran my grounds to a factory ground location on the passenger side strut tower. If yall have any questions, let me know.

THIS is where Ford should have installed lights on our hoods, not blinkers in our vents!
Right! One of the reasons I came up with the idea. Do any manufacturers install under hood lights anymore?

Wouldn't you just love to hear the backstory on why Ford dropped the hood blinkers for 2017? I wonder how much "They're kinda cheesy" feedback they got?
I really like the hood blinkers and don't find them cheesy at all. And I also doubt any feedback of "they're kinda cheesy" was discussed at any point, given that stuff like interior trim lighting and pony puddle lights are equally pointless but still in 2017 models.

I don't mind the hood blinkers, but I can only see one of them when driving and it makes the extractors more expensive.

I like this idea, but I'd like to take it a step further. I believe there is a factory hood switch somewhere (since the car will tell you if the hood is open on the dash). I think it would be cool to hook the relay to that switch so that whenever the hood is up, the lights will turn on :)

If I ever shell out for the factory service manual, I'll be able to toy around more with wiring stuff like this! To be continued.....

Let us know if you do it.
