Melted cat and boost blew my piston rings apart. Will never run them again

Ring lands you mean? That heat has to go somewhere. The pistons are the weak link in the stock bottom end hence are almost always the first thing to fail.

Yeah, found a few pieces of the bottom one broken off the piston, and some oil ring pieces in the pan after some spirited pulls and the driver side valve cover blowing off at 130mph lol

Last night, I went to the drag strip and made 5 passes (one on motor and 4 on nitrous). Right away, I noticed that the motor was breaking up during shifts between gears 1-4 (almost as if I was hitting the rev limiter, but I wasn’t). This happened several times during passes and was sometimes intermittent. On the drive home from the track I noticed a drastic change in the exhaust note.

Today I put the car up on the lift and found that the driver’s side cat had been blown out and a weld had also broken on the passenger side of the mid pipe. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Lastly, how much of an effect do you guys think this would have had on the mph during my runs? Sixty foot times are a whole other story,

That's definitely a failed autogenous weld.

autogenous is welded without filler metal. Also known as fusion welding.

I see.... I have a set of "race cats". Not sure how much they would help clean the air because I can see right through the honeycomb. You're doing the best thing though. Just get rid of them.

Engines cost a lot more than a few dollars nowadays. Let us know how those sound.
