Having been told mine was at the docks and waiting 'allocation to a vessel' a couple of weeks ago, I'm hoping all the cars that don't appear on WWL are on a K Line ship.
I'm hoping that too, but even though they don't have the tracking facility Karen or Stacy presumably get passed the information of which K Line vessel you're booked onto and when. I was even lead to believe you would be notified of this regardless, so I assume I'm still waiting as there is no news through those channels either.

Manners, you're telling me what happens at the docks, not why it happens. I suspect that it has something to do with money. At least I hope it does and isn't just down to a lack of forward planning

Apparently...it's not just down to first come first served at the docks. In order to keep costs down Ford pays a minimum fee to the logistics companies per car shipped which puts them basically at the back of the queue. Anyone paying for an expedited service of any description will get priority so when we hear of 120 Mustangs on a boat it's likely because that's the number of available spaces left after the big money boys are on board.

That makes sense. So what ford mean when they say they're 'doing everything they can' to get customers cars to them quickly, they mean 'everything we can apart from paying a few extra quid to mend bridges with their valued customers'.

Can't complain really if that ultimately plays a part in the relatively low retail price but a bit of openness about the situation from ford would be welcome.

That's about it. That information came from a guy on the Europe forum who worked in logistics.

Would be good if you got the option to pay another extra charge to at least push your car forward up the pecking order, i'm sure theres a few folk who would happily pay another charge to save getting told you missed the 3rd boat due to it being full again :(

Yeah, I'm sure some would pay the extra. Wonder how much the premium would be? Should be in the options list!

Having waited twelve months I'd be happier if Ford just made a slight effort to get cars delivered in an order that at least vaguely resembled their original order date. I'd be very unimpressed about having to pay extra for what they should be doing in the first place...

Yeah totally, but since its not first come first served it would be good to at least have the option, your right, if paying 30k+ you would just think they would go the extra mile, but if your paying that much anyway another payment on finance aint gonnae break the bank to get it here quicker. At least if you were impatiant like most of us it would be good to have the choice

I get the impression, having followed this since the vehicles first started getting built, that they just do whatever they want it the States. My car was among the first RHD cars to be built but only got on the third boat over but then somehow it got over to Southampton before others that had hit Europe first!

Also although it is understandable that cars who's manufacturers have paid a premium for shipping take priority over the Fords it's still a bit baffling how some mustangs that have arrived at the docks later than others get on earlier boats. Anyone ever looked up the definition of logistics?

Hang on - just how many cars go from the US to Europe? Surely the majority are going the other way?

Enough to justify all the boats. They won't be sailing half empty; optimum would be slightly too many cars for the number of boat spaces but I guess they're quite a bit short of space.

All the BMW X3's X5's and Mercedes equivalents. Lots of other stuff you have never thought of too - not necessarily cars.

I have followed the ship my car was on to Zeebrugge and it is now passing southern Africa on its way to Melbourne. So Europe is not the only destination either.
