I'd take a 20 mile "penalty" if it had meant I didn't have to wait for 14 months ;)

Short test run after building cars, drive it to transporter for upfitting if needed, drive to transporter for delivery to port, drive from port holding area which can be a couple miles from quayside, drive to ship, unload from ship at zeebrugge to holding areas, drive to area where cars are undersealed and checked by customs, then back to next ship for transport to uk, unload from ship at southampton (I work with a guy who used to do this in the port, some cars weren't kept to the 20mph limit as set down by the bosses, there's a surprise), it's a 3 mile drive there at times.

All these little trips do build up eventually.

Hence the reason for starting this thread. I'm just trying to find out the norm so I'm not worried that my car has been Ferris Buellers day off test driven.

Seemingly some cars get pulled from production for extended test drives/quality checking but this should be noted in the car or on the accompanying paperwork or something. Sorry for being vague but i read this on a thread elsewhere on the forum...

This wouldn't surprise me, if the QA check pulls out certain rattles and 'dings' inside the cabin or engine bay that they wish to look into. Personally I couldn't give two sh1ts if my car had an extra 50 miles on it from delivery, I'd rather the peace of mind knowing my car was perfect than a mistake had been let through and i'd need to take it back in a week to get it looked at... Sooner have the issues solved before pickup than after!

That being said i'd still prefer minimal miles ;)

22 on mine when I picked it up. Not ideal I know but didn't see it as excessive.

Couple of times round the test track, back and forth to outfitters, couple of miles at each of the freight yards at Flat Rock, Baltimore, Zeebrugge, and Southampton, plus a couple of miles by the dealer sounds about right to me.

Reckon mine was 25 - a few extra for having stripes.

In the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter. These cars have been in and out of so many car parks before they reach the UK, it's not surprising.

As an aside I got a new Boxster in 1999 and the mileage display was blank although the trip worked. I asked the salesman about this and he said drive it for a couple of hundred miles and if it doesn't appear, bring it back.

So I drove for about 230 miles and suddenly the mileage came up as 0001! I asked about this later and was told that if the car was selected for post-production tests they automatically took a few miles off the odometer :eyebulge:

It's not so uch the miles - it's how the engine was treated doing them

I'm in running in mode, so get the engine warm, then gentle revs through the gears towards upper rev range.

Can't help thinking initial mileage (other than shuttling about) would have been a bit more 'hire car' if you see what I mean.
