I just read that Ford employees got quite a bit less this yr. than last in profit sharing checks. And they are going to be building my car in a few days. Oh Crap...........

Last year's $8800 was a record year, and with the launch of the new F150 (biggest money maker) and the mustang, it was obvious it'd be a little lower.

$6900 bucks is no joke, that's a good chunk of change.

Could create attitude problems, but they also might say lets do outstanding work and get these profit sharing checks increased.

True cosmo. it is a pretty good bonus huh? imagine getting an extra 7 grand in addition to your regular pay. Well, maybe they will be "happy" workers next week......I hope...

No offense but it is not like the Mustangs they are building right now are of the best fit and finish. There are a lot of issues with panel fitment and installing wrong parts in vehicles. They should be glad they are getting something and like Cosmo said, it is a good chunk of change. The fit and finish of the cars should be great because they care to build them that way as a matter of pride versus being hinged on the amount of bonus they get.

Draco, I am originally from the Detroit area, and this kind of reminds me of a joke we used to say a lot. Never buy a car built on a Friday or a Monday. On Friday, everyone is in a hurry to get out of work and hit the Bars. And on Monday, everyone has a Hangover.........Whew, if there is any truth to that at all, I am sure glad my car is scheduled to hit the assembly line this Tuesday, instead of Monday, the day after the Superbowl.....

At my plant the bonus doesn't really effect the product. It's just another day like yesterday. At least that's the way it is in bodyshop closure. A few years back were getting NO bonuses. In fact, they were taking away benefits. Even after tax (which takes almost half) I'm good with whatever I get. Ford will get it back anyway when I get my car this summer!

This. There are people to ensure quality doesn't drop. There are people who will do their job no matter the bonuses. And believe me, management is very forthcoming with why bonuses are what they are so theirs no hard feelings. The criteria is set early and can be tracked the whole time.

What's a bonus check?

If my wife or I got a bonus check we'd probably drop over dead.

Those bonuses are never as big as they seem. Those useless feds tax them at an outrageous withholding rate.

The good news on the bonus tax front (if there is such a thing) is that it's ultimately taxed at the same rate as the rest of your income. For some reason, the % withheld by the feds is high when the bonus checks are cut but when year end taxes returns are prepared, the bonus income/taxes paid gets lumped in with the rest of your income/taxes paid so in the end, the bonus check is taxed at the same rate as the rest of your income....some of the high initial bonus tax withholding comes back in the form of a larger tax return/less owed (depending on your income tax bracket of course).

The company I work for (been there 16years) gives annual bonuses. Depends on profits, etc. We have only missed a bonus 3 of those years. These are a % of your annual salary. Management positions (Director to SVP)range from 10-30% while staff level folks are 3-7.5%.

Yep, thanks I know what they are, I'm just being sarcastic. I won't ever see one in my current line of work and my wife has been in the private sector at the same job for 12 years and NEVER seen a bonus check. We live in a depressed area. Just wanted to add a little perspective that some people will NEVER see a bonus check in their life. There are a lot of things worse than receiving a lower bonus check, like NO check. Enjoy if you get one. :)
