Don't buy an RTD. get the MPVI3
Unless you plan on tuning your own car, this isnt going to net you anything. If hes using wengerd, hes not getting tunefiles that he could edit with the MPVI3. Wengerd uses TDN with the RTD. There is now extra functionality you will get unless you are tuning your own car. And you wont be able to read out the flashed tune from wengerd and make any edits either.

If you want to do this right with an MPVI3, then you need to restore the car to stock and read out the stock tune. Then you can edit that tune and flash it back. But an MPVI3 is a waste of money for you if you dont have access to your tunefile which you wont.

Fair! That's kinda what I kept seeing pop up everywhere, including on this thread with ZXMustang and S550HPP -- I appreciate the input @SheepDog !

Honestly I might just go with the SCT device. They look kind of cool and when I first originally started looking into it that's what I imagined I would be using haha. Also they come with a few canned tunes, which apparently people have said are more or less useless lol i.e. no significant gains whatsoever, but it would be nice to have a few tunes already in there. And it is also cheaper by about $80-$100 (or even more if I go with the more expensive MPVI3)

However, the person on this forum who had used the SCT device with 4.88 gears did mention they had to get a tune from Steeda for the 4.88 gears, whereas the person that used HP Tuners said he was able to change the gear ratio himself using ForScan (for BCM) and HP Tuners (for PCM). If it means one less tune revision I would consider the MPVI3 -- if anyone happens to know the answer I would appreciate it!

Okay awesome! Thanks for chiming in @ZXMustang ! Yeah exactly, even if the tune file was editable I wouldn't do any editing (beyond my skill level) except for being able to change the axle ratio (which I don't think really counts as editing the tune file). So yes, agreed that MPVI3 is overkill for me. But it's helpful to know that it will allow access to the VCM Editor software (which is what @SheepDog was getting at I think)

Thanks!

I just tuned a guy with the frpp performance pack/tune. There was a ton left on the table from that tune. Talk about blowing his mind. Good base, but it was surprisingly rich and needed a ton of refinement.
My vehicle was damaged before delivery. I was never satisfied with the repairs. So I raised hell with the dealer trying to get out of the sell for a damaged vehicle. Ended up recieving the Ford tune to accept the car and keep it. Was a shitty situation during covid purchase.

Oh wow man that's such a crappy situation. I hope the car's been good to you other than that setback.

The RTD can make any adjustments in VCM scanner the MPVI can and you can adjust the gear ratio as well
Okay thanks for clearing that up @Wengerd Performance ! Just want to be absolutely certain before I pull the trigger. I will research a few of these topics and will hit you up soon. Thanks!

@mali321 it has. Of the 3 newer fords we've purchased its been the least troublesome.
Great I'm glad to hear that! Sometimes things/purchases start off on the wrong foot but they end up being generally well. Which is better than an initially "perfect" purchase that ends up draining your wallet. This sounds like the former, so I'm glad for you! 👍

Hello guys!

I'm finally going forward with tuning my car; decided to go with Wengerd and he recommends the RTD+ device. The car is a 2019 GT manual non-PP (so 3.55 rear gears)

My question is, if I decide to changs rear gears in the future to 4.09, would I be able to use VCM Editor with the RTD+ device to make this change? There was a thread where a member mentioned the process involves changing the BCM with Forscan and the PCM through HP Tuners; however, I'm seeing some conflicting info on Google regarding whether the VCM Editor is compatible with the RTD+ or not. Do I maybe need the MPVI or maybe the SCT X4?

This was the original thread regarding the gear change and the softwares involved. Thanks for your help!

Tuners will lock their tunes so you can't edit them. Probably can't read them either since it's intellectual property

Editing Ford's OEM calibration is not nor ever was intellectual property. Thats like saying I rewrote the ending of a published book, and now Im the author.

And most tuners lock their tunes to hide how garbage they are not for people to steal anything.

I didn't say anything about Fords calibration. I'm talking about tuners.

There are bad tuners and exceptional tuners and all points in between. to say that they lock it because they are "garbage" tunes is laughable.
