Hi folks, hoping to get some friendly advice. I recently ordered a 2016 ecoboost premium with the ecoboost performance package. To be totally honest, I never heard of a car tuner before reading this forum. I like the gain in power, but mostly for the increase in fuel economy. I'm not going out racing. It seems like a fairly inexpensive addition. But would I need to leave it hooked up all the time? I like to keep my cars very clean and don't want it sticking out on the dash or on the window. So can it be tuned, then disconnected until I want to change it? Or will disconnecting it send it back to stock? Sorry if it's a very basic question! The only mods I plan on doing is adding an better intake. Thanks for any advise

You don't need to keep the tuner connected to your car. You will be tuning the car with the tuner, and then disconnect after the completion. It's kind of similar to USB thumb drive for the computer. You transfer a file (tune file) to your computer (car), then disconnect a USB thumb drive (tuner) after the completion. Hope this helps.

Thanks! If I get any mods later (intake, possibly exhaust) does the tuner automatically sense those, do I click on the extras or does it not matter if the tuner knows?

Just tell your contact at your tuning company and most of them will email you a revised tune to take into account your mods.

We need a frequently asked questions sticky for these questions

It sounds like you should go with the cobb accessport. You can easily switch between tunes and they have an economy tune for daily driving. I would suggest researching maperformance as Adam can write you a tune for whatever mods you have.

Most tuners on here I believe will require you to send them a datalog before they send you a new file. I believe Livernois doesn't require the log though.

Adam @ MAPerformance has been working on a E30 Tune for me. Can't say enough about the service and technical experience he has provided thus far!! Not to mention the car is making a LOT more power, feels/runs great and getting better gas mileage!! Have a PP with an Auto and can easily get over 30 with a bit of stop & go traffic, hitting passing gear occasionally lol, running 80+ and driving mainly highway but a bit of city also...

As other's mentioned you do not need to have it plugged into your car at all times, however you can mount the Cobb Accessport and use it's gauge function which is pretty nice.

I can set you up with a power tune, and an economy tune where you can switch when you are looking to get the best MPG out of your car. You don't have to plug in the Accessport to switch the tunes either, you can just hold down the cruise control cancel button and hit the Set + button to move to the next MAP slot which can be setup for ECONOMY.

You can purchase an Accessport on my website here:

If you have any other questions, please feel free to post back or drop me a pm!

Thank you,
Adam
