My question is... will tuning affect drive modes? If so how?

A tune that adjusts engine parameters like timing and air/fuel ratio shouldn't have any effect on the drive modes. Remember that the drive modes adjust traction thresholds and throttle mapping (plus transmission shift behavior if you have an automatic).

Unless the tuner deliberately chooses to affect these areas, which would be unlikely unless it's made clear as a product feature, it should run seamlessly with the factory drive modes.

So would said tune feel more responsive, powerful, [insert other adjective here] when the car is in track mode opposed to standard mode, such as the case from factory?

Thanks, good info... I was not certain if some drive modes changed fuel mapping as well.

Sure, you could say the different settings would create the feeling of being more responsive. Unless otherwise stated from the people making the tune, you're working with the same factory parameters, there's just more power at play.

Tunes typically change throttle response, which is one of the items changed by the drive modes. It's one of the biggest factors in the car "livening up" so I'll be curious as to what happens when someone tunes their car then hits the switch.

Any word on how aftermarket tunes effect the driving modes?

The modes affect throttle mappings and steering resistence. It doesn't affect the things that tunes change like cam timings.

The tunes don't change the drive modes, the drive modes don't change the tunes.

You're slightly incorrect. In the 2015 the modes change throttle response, traction control and in the case of Track put Steering into Sport. Otherwise the steering setting is controlled independently.

One of the biggest parts of an aftermarket tune is a change in throttle response, which is different in all the modes. When a Rev Auto or Lund tunes the car, do all the modes now have the same throttle response? Is just Standard mode changed and the others stay the same, but have increased power? Nobody seems to really be able to answer how all the modes are affected by a tune. I couldn't even get a straight answer out of Adam at Rev as to the modes. Hence why I'm holding off on tuning for now.

Interesting. If I get some time after work today I'll take the 'stang out and play with the modes.

I had a good conversation with one of the big tuners today. It seems that the tune changes the Standard profiles throttle response setting and the other modes stack on top of that (or reduce in the case of Snow mode). The real problem is SCT still has a lot of work to do to open up all the tuning parameters and currently tuners are working with a limited set. They can get more power out of the car safely, but limited in what they can turn on and off and of course can't modify the other modes yet.

I believe you're going to see some tuners move to other tuning solutions in order to get more control of the car.

Needless to say I'm going to hang tight for now and see how things develop.

Don't forget about me if/when you do tune! I'd be curious to see what develops.

Wonder if anyone is using Delta Force Tuning on these ponies yet?

Absolutely! Rev Auto should reach out to you as well as more of the car tuning parameters open up to them.
