Tune question

Hey guys I’m hoping someone can help me out on a potential purchase. I’m thinking of pulling the trigger on a really nice 18GT on Vroom. One thing I noticed in the pictures is that it has a JLT cold air intake on it. From doing some research it looks like you need a tune to run this intake. My question is how will I determine what tune it has since I obviously wouldn’t be able to reach out to the previous owner. I’ve messed around with the SCT X4’s before on my truck but was curious if I bought one of these would it be able to verify what tune is on the vehicle? Thanks for the help!

Unless the device is with the car, you likely won't know. That intake is a tune only for sure. I would be worried it would be tuned for certain octane or e85 without knowing. Always tough buying a car with mods you don't know the history on.

I recently picked up a low mile 18 gt with a phase 1 Roush blower package on it. Thought it had the Roush tune, but found out later it didn't. I failed Smog due to the rear o2's turned off. Stock manifolds so i guessed it had a canned tune as most older ones turn them off by default for headers before all this EPA fun.

I had to purchase a RTD and remote tune from PBD to get me dialed back in,. Glad i did though as now i know what is truly on the car after data logging with them and they did turn the emissions back on for me to pass.

+1 on being worried about fuel. If it’s an E85 tune and Vroom put a tankful of regular in there….

Try talking to Vroom and see if they can contact the seller and get you an answer. If not, consider passing.

Thanks guys. After doing research and VRoom being less than helpful(shocker) I think I’m going to pass. To many unknowns about the tune and gas makes me nervous as like you said if it’s a e85 Tune I would like to know! I was hoping their would be a way I could return it to stock and then re-tune it my self but at this point I don’t want someone else’s headache. Oh well back on the hunt!

You can tell if its on an e85 tune in the gauge menu if the air fuel ratio gauge reads below 10 -9.8 I think at idle.

93 octane or normal gas tune should read like ~14.7 at idle If I remember correctly. Guess It could also be a flex tune. I would ask if the device is included.

good info, thank you. I’m still going back and forth on this as it has all the options, low miles that I’m after. I talked to PBD and they said they would be able to write a tune which can replace the one that’s on there. My only issues is like someone said before about if Vroom put the wrong gas in it then it could be a problem.

I had a dealer run the stock tune when I had e85 in the tank for a short time (probably no driving just idling) and nothing bad happened. I was also able to re-load my tune after that too. Obviously not ideal though and I was pissed because I had told them it was on a e85 tune.
