I'm replacing my clutch soon.

Does anyone know where I can rent a transmission jack near West Bloomfield, MI?

Thanks

All of the manuals I've removed minus semi truck transmissions I've simply man handled including the old school Muncies. They're just not that heavy. With an auto I've used a simple floor jack with a board on it to spread the load on the pan.

I'm installing a Mcleod twin disc clutch and I'm getting old and feeble. Given the increased complexity (really?) of the install and my desire to be gentle to my relatively new car I've been thinking caution is the greater part of valor this time around.

The next comment will be, if I feel this way why not take it to a shop and have them install it? Well I don't trust your average shop not to be ham fisted about it either and finding a shop with experience with the Mcleod twin disc could be problematic too.

I used to be a diesel mechanic years ago and feel the same way about letting anyone touch my stuff. I've seen tons of mechanics and honestly at least 80% of them are hacks and I wouldn't trust them. Perhaps you can find a local guy to give you a hand with the swap? That might be the best scenario to keep you involved in the install and share some of the labor. If I was closer I would lend a hand for beers.

I bought a transmission jack from Harbor Freight for under $100 when I installed my RXT. Worked great and even used it to assist me with putting my catback on unassisted. It lowers down to 7 inches and now just rolls under my workbench.

X3. Used one to do a tranny swap in my old BMW by myself. My brother used it to drop out the engine on a 67 beetle. Well worth it.
