Tramlining

I've noticed lately that my tires are following every groove and rut in the road, causing the steering to wander a little bit. Gripping the steering wheel with both hand mitigates the steering from wandering. But it feels somewhat disconcerting.

Anyone else notice their car doing this? I have upgraded suspension and still running A/S 18" Pirellis, with 15,000 miles on them. I also recently had my tires rotated when I took it to the dealer - and I think I began noticing it after this point.

My tires might have some uneven wear on them? I had my alignment set when the suspension was installed so I don't think it's that, and the fact that I noticed it after the tires were rotated makes me think uneven tore wear is the cause?

Thoughts? Anyone else experiencing tramlining? Is this normal?

Maybe new tires will fix this??

I would almost think maybe the alignment seems a little off. Maybe have the shop look to see if its out of whack after the rotation. Depending on where you buys your tires, they might check it for free. Maybe?

That or could you need a bump steer kit. I know I had to put one of those on my 86 GT after lowering. Do they make 'em for the S550? Just looked and it seems they do. Maybe this would be the fix?

It is quite possible that rotating the tires might cause this. In a short time the tires will wear in to the new pattern and i bet you will see a reduction in the tramlining. I did notice some pull with mine after rotation also ( Pirellis 18" a/s) but it did go away in short order.

Not necessarily true. I'm running 275's with 315's and have no issues at all.

You said you have upgraded suspension, do you mean lowering springs? If so steeda makes a bumpsteer kit that fixes what you are describing.

Thanks Tim. This making me think that this at least somewhat normal for these cars. And especially since I am lowered, I am probably running a more aggressive alignment which seems to be at least part cause of this tramlining effect.

On a flat road my car tracks perfectly straight. I did notice also with stiffer shock settings on my Konis, the tramlining effect was worse.

I am going to look into the Steeda front G brace or one of the BMR offerings. Most likely won't get around to it until next year.
