As someone that has had disc surgery, take care of the real issue. Your back.
I now drive a stick shift and enjoy the hell out of it. Don't dick around with ignoring these back issues. The nerve is getting permanent damage with the herniation sitting against it.
I had a double laminectomy 17 years ago (L1&L2 and L3&L4) and life has been great since then. I do have some issues of spinal stenosis (scar tissue build up) that causes me issues on occasion, but usually Motrin takes care of it.
