As someone that has had disc surgery, take care of the real issue. Your back.

I now drive a stick shift and enjoy the hell out of it. Don't dick around with ignoring these back issues. The nerve is getting permanent damage with the herniation sitting against it.
I had a double laminectomy 17 years ago (L1&L2 and L3&L4) and life has been great since then. I do have some issues of spinal stenosis (scar tissue build up) that causes me issues on occasion, but usually Motrin takes care of it.

Invest in a inversion table. Made a world of a difference for my back, I got 2 bulge discs.

Seeking advice for my current situation. I've been recently diagnosed with herniated disk, so every time i drive my mustang "manual" for more than 30 mins i am in constant pain. The car is barely 5 months old and looking to replace with an automatic mustang. I know i am going to lose money, but what would be the best route? Is it better to trade in now or wait a couple months?
Get surgery like others have said on here. It's probably a budging disc that can be fixed pretty easily...my buddy just had it done a few months ago...literally all it was was a 1" incision and like 45 min surgery to shave the disc, push back in place...laid up 1 day...by day 5 felt right as rain. Said he wishes he did it 5 years ago.

All good advice so far.
I would try to arrange for a long test drive in an automatic. If that also gives you pain, then it may be just the car/seat/position that won't change regardless of the transmission. :(

Just a bit of useless information, however, your car in the current Australian market for Mustangs would get you conservatively $10,000 to $15,000 more than you paid for it.

Listen to these guys and get your back fixed. And selling your Mustang ain't gonna fix your back.
