So I was curious. I'm getting into auto x, not planning on any hpde. What kind of load ratings do I need when it comes to wheels. No intentions in using r comp tires, 200 treadwear and up. I keep reading that I need to get wheels rated for track use but I can not justify dropping 8k on a set of HRE's for an Ecoboost mustang, however I don't want to have a catastrophic failure and cause considerable damage. Just curious on the consensus here.

Serious people typically run Forgestars - which in the wheel world, they're not on expensive side. I've run Axis Model 5 from Tirerack and then cheap OE Wheels (they had perfect offsets & size for my non-PP GT to be FS class legal) and they were perfectly fine.

Make sure you review class requirements before you purchase dedicated wheelset - Street classes (Eco will be in D Street) require to keep OEM width (9" square in your case) with offset +/-7.5mm within OEM one and diameter +/- 1" from OEM (19" is only reasonable size, 18"/9" will be really short of a tire although with auto it may not be too much of an issue).

CAM-C is run whatever you can fit - people generally go for widest tire/wheel combo.

Serious people run Forgelines, HREs and other true forged/billet wheels...not Forgestars. Not that they are bad perse, but those are usually for amateurs not looking to spend $4k+ a set.

As long as you don't buy cheap cast wheels, you should be fine on most offerings in the Mustang world. Many of us run as mentioned Forgestars and other flow-formed wheels in much more demanding conditions than autox just fine.

You are correct in that track wheels need have a higher load rating to really support the extra forces that sticky tires and more G-forces are putting on them. Our APEX EC-7 wheel has been proven over the last decade by BMW and Mustang owners to hold up to track abuse and is JWL/VIA certified of course with a proper load rating for one of these bigger cars. Our SM-10 design has an even higher load rating at 10% above the industry standard along with a reinforced lip and knurled beading.

Like kz said, you need to first pick what class you plan on running. The hot ticket for CAM is our 18x11" ET52 with BFG Rival S or 19x11" ET52 with Bridgestone RE71R. Both of these setups will need extended wheel studs and a 25mm spacer up front, but then this leaves you with a truly rotatable square fitment, something very valuable for prolonging the life of performance tires. Both of our wheels offer significant weight savings while adding more grip as well.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

I should be more specific - serious autocrossers in street classes. Even in higher prep classes you rarely see Forgelines since they typically will cost 1/3 to 1/4 of a cost of the entire car. And while the thread topic says track OP says he wants to do autocross.
