Hell Fellas,

I've been researching aftermarket wheels and the TPMS system and have only been able to find that the information is scattered all over the place... Is there anyway we can all collaborate, vendors and enthusiasts, and just make a sticky so that the info is in one location and then maybe there wouldn't be so many post about the same subject?

The Questions I have are:

Can the TPMS system be disabled.. just straight out turn it off?

Since the factory valve stems are like 2' long and look like poo on most aftermarket wheels what options are there?

I have seen the shorty rubber stems.. Does the actual OEM sensor come off the OE valve stem?

The aftermarket metal stems with the loop on the inside.... they are designed to basically just hold the entire OE valve stem and sensor inside the wheel?

Someone on here actually drilled and tapped their wheel to bolt the sensor onto the wheel... guess that depends on how much "meat" there is on the wheel to do so...

And the last option are to band the sensors into place?

I was going through my archive and saw this thread, its a good thread so I thought I would respond to it.

The TPMS system cant be shut off to my knowledge, unless you go into the direct program and do something to want to shut it off. Also why would you want to shut it off its a standard safety feature that became mandatory in 2006-2007 on vehicles.

You can use shorter black stems or even shorty tpms loop adapters with 1" stems.

Correct the tpms loop adapter just holds the unit inside.

A tpms band is to hold the sensor on the wheel, also in regards to taping a wheel I dont recommend it.

I see no need for the TPMS system.. to me its just a added hassle/BS...

And you cant shut it off in the ECU.. it has to be in the ICM or some other module

Understandable, but on this car its a standard feature. No real way I know of shutting it off.

So I put drag wheels on my car a while back that don't have TPMS and then went back to my normal wheels which do have them. Now the TPMS light won't go away so it appears that they are no syncing. Is there a way to reset it or something?

Yes a tpms reset is needed, if you drop by any tire shop they can easily do that and shouldn't charge or if they do it's like 20 bucks

You could disable the TPMS on the Focus with the Foccus program. Since the Mustang is also a global car, and TPMS is a US mandate I would assume the option to disable is there just like the Focus. An interesting side comment. On the Focus Ford has one of the options that uses tire rotations per minute to calculate when a tire is low versus using an actual sensor. The Focus group assumed this was something used in the European market where actual sensors are not required.

Can anyone share some guidance on making aftermarket tpms sensors to work with the 2015 mustang. I've had the car in learning mode at two ford dealerships so far and it wont read the aftermarket tpms sensors which are a new set installed in my new wheels and tire package. I really don't want them to mess with my new wheels and potentially have to move the wheel weights around. I've seen on some forums that in addition to using the tpms tool, you have to add air while re-learning to make the aftermarket sensors work?
