I just recently got my s550 and I'm loving it so far. There's a local guy wanting to trade me a set of 20" Forgestar F14's with some new Indy 500's that he has on his 14' GT. He's not sure if they have tpms sensors in them but he doesn't have a tire light on. Do y'all know if his car would have sensors and if they would be compatible with my car? I've got a 16' GT premium PP. I test fitted a front and rear and my light didn't come on with his wheels on my car. We also tested to see if it was somehow reading sensors in his wheels by letting some air out of the front and my readout in the dash wasn't changing. My set up is factory pp wheels with factory pirellis on the front with about half trad left and some new Lexani tires on the rear. Don't judge, lol. They were on the car when I bought it. The tires are one of the reasons I want to trade. He's asking for my setup and $700 but I'm thinking I can offer $500 and he'll take it. Do y'all think it's a good trade and will I have tpms issues?

What do y'all think?

It sounds like a fair deal to me. How does he not know if the Tpms sensors are in the wheels or not? Is he not the original owner? But to answer your question. Yes they will fit fine and if there's no low pressure lights on either of your cars, I say go for it

He's not the original owner of the wheels. He said when he bought them he just slapped on him car and drove away. His tpms light never came on.

If your old wheels are nearby the car may still read those sensors.

The sensors need to be synced to your car using a TPMS Transmitter tool. You can get the Motorcraft tool to sync the sensors from most places that sell Mustang parts, or Amazon.

Here's one source for the tool with an instruction video:

The transmitter is way cheaper on Amazon or eBay

My wheels were on his car about 20-25 feet away. Would that be close enough to be in range?

I’ve read a couple threads here that say the tool isn’t needs for reprogramming. Is that just for the 15’ model year?

2014 TPMS sensors are different than 2015-17 sensors. My '14 wheels would not sync to my '17 without new sensors.

To be honest with you...I changed the wheels and tires on a 2010 f150 I had a few years ago and bought new TPMS sensors for that setup and kept my factory setup and I used the transmitter on them and the truck never showed any indication of a problem. my 15 f350 I never used a transmitter with and I never had any issues. My wheels and tires for my gt will be in one day this week or next week and I'll put them on and see if I need to use the transmitter on it. It's going to be a flip of a coin I guess
