I've seen all sorts of threads on here about installing tow hooks, whether it be the ford performance option or the ZL1 addons... Does anyone have any experience pulling their car using the ZL1 hooks yet? Do they hold up okay when pulling a car out of the run off areas?

Just wondering if I should just go the distance and install the FP hooks instead.

I installed the ZL1 tow hook just before I went to Laguna Seca. However, I am not a good enough driver to run off track yet and thus haven't had a chance to test it. ;)

I've asked the same question about 4-6 months ago with no takers. I'm also interested to hear some field reports.

The FP hooks looks nice, but you lose the backup light. The ZL1 hooks look nice as well, but one of them costs as much as 2 of the FP offerings.

There is also the Rocket Science Racing one for the front.

The way I see it is that is there in case you need it (ie, go flying off the track and a wrecker hooks to your tow hook). I would imagine the only item that would take the beating would be the finish on the hook itself. If it came to that, I think the hook would be the least of my concerns.

Reviving an old thread here but I'm about to install mine too. Does anyone know how long it should take? Just simply remove the bumper and 15-20 minutes for install I assume?

Gotcha. It seems that some people who have done it from underneath said it was a PITA and wish they had removed the bumper. Do you feel the same?

I have to install another one in the next few weeks and I'll do it the same way. It wasn't bad, but if you have giant hands... you might want to go the bumper route.

From years of experience on the farm hooking, pulling 10's of 1000's of pounds something on the line of the ZL1 hook with is a rotating clevis is far superior than the FP flat steel tow hook.

The FP hooks will work just fine in most situations but when it would come to a spot where a car was positioned on an incline the clevis style would be far better.

Epiphany had built a hook of his own which turned out very nice. Take a look at that thread.

Hope this helps.

Yep, my experience was the same as icormba. Took a couple hours, smaller hands would certainly help! My arms and hands looked like I battled a cat.

I have yet to install the rear hook, doesn't look like there is any way around removing the rear bumper cover in that instance.

Interesting. I have pretty small hands and just tried to take the bumper off. The side screws are such a PITA to get to. Now mind you I've taken the bumper off of my GT a million times. Only took me like 3-4 minutes to get the damn bumper off. In this case it's like the side screw is a bit further back, so even my tiny hands can't get to it. Gonna have to buy some extension stuff.

I might just try going the front splitter route.
