Toggle Switch for Whipple Fan?

Hi All,

New to the forum and had a quick question I was hoping you all could help me with. I just purchased the Whipple Stage 2 for my 2015 Mustang GT and add the dual fan option. I have seen post noting folks that install an on/off toggle switch with this fan but can't for the lift of me find details or instructions on how to go about doing this.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on parts needed and install instructions for the fan switch?

Any 2 or 3 pole power switch will work. All you need to do is loop the power wire (relay fan on wire) inside the car and run the switch between it.

I'm installing my kit as well and would like to see ideas on where to install a switch so that it is discrete and clean.

Why not just tap into a keyed on wire in the engine bay or fuse box? Thats what i am going to do, well planned on it.

i guess y'all are wanting to turn the fans off if you are sitting somewhere with the acc on but not motor running?

I hear that they are very noisy so I would like to have the option to turn the fans off when I'm just cruising. A simple fan kill switch would work but I need to find a location to put the switch.

Keep in mind that I live in WI as well so it's not as warm here.

True, i'm in Texas so its always hot here. Could always runs a relay and use the stock fan to trigger it? Isn't the stock one temperature activated?

I'm sure the stock one is temp activated but it's off of the engine temp. I would like to turn the fans on when max power is needed such as those quick runs to the grocery store or picking the kiddos up from school. :lol:

Makes sense, just trying to help keep from adding a switch.

Maybe in the drawer thing to the left for the steering wheel, center console, glovebox or use a bracket and mount under dash near obd2.

I'm pretty sure thats only the complete kits. We all have the competition kits.

Instead of looping the power into the cabin then back out, could always just use the switch on the ground. Just ground inside or grab power from inside. either way there is only one wire passing through the firewall.

Bought my kit in July and fans run all the time.

All complete kits are switched by engine RPM, on at 250rpm, off at 200rpm. This requires the trigger wire to be run to the IMRC to control it.

Custom calibrations and original kits all shipped with ignition on/off control which are controlled by the fuse they are tapped to. Note, fuse #62 works better than #44, we have switched that on competition kits.

Ok just a thought, does anyone know of a wire that is only 12V+ when the motor is running?

If you use the relay harness we could use that as the trigger wire. Motor running fans are, motor off but acc is on, fans off.

It's very simple tap into the intercooler pump red wire, like Whipple SC said above. It's what I did and works perfect.
