Question for those with tint jobs on their s550s.

I just got my car tinted by a reputable place. 5 stars on Yelp. Authorized 3M dealer. Lifetime warranty etc.

They handled the quarter window frames by only tinting the glass within the dot matrix. Apparently it's hard to tint the dot matrix because of the uneven surface, creates discolorization, etc.

The resulting tint job left a thin line of normal glass around the quarter window. Tinter says that as the film dries it should blend in and look more uniform.

Was this how your tint was applied? Any tips or issues to make sure it looks consistent?

no, not at all... i had mine tinted at a reputable place as well, and they tinted over the dot matrix. The tint won't seal over the dot matrix, but at least it doesn't look like some hack job on the inside.

They should tint over the dots or you will have a weird bright circle around the tinted area.

Mine was tinted by the dealer, or someone the dealer had do it, and they cover the Dots.

To tint over the dots you usually a premium because it's more work and materials, I think they have to put some back vinyl over the dots and then tint over/around it. Some shops try and sand the dots but that's not too effective either. Most shops just don't want to fool with the dots and film adhering to it and you just deal with it.

Had the shop do the windshield on my C63 a few years back and they also ran it to the dots

That's been my experience. the tint won't adhere between the dots, but once it dries it's consistent at least and doesn't look wierd from the inside.

When its tinted over the dots without vinyl does it look weird from the inside? The tint guy said it give it a couple weeks because the tint will fade a bit at the edges making it more natural.

I'm going to take it back in if there's a noticeable ring of light around it on the outside.

Or get some quarter window scoops and be one of those guys.

Honestly, from owning my car for about 1.5 years I've never even noticed from the inside at all.
