Thanks for the suggestions. You were right! Just a label coming off the driveshaft. They have aluminum backed sound deadening (/heat shield) there so it does make a metallic-ish echo that propagates into area where the deadening stops.

Christian Brothers Automotive is great by the way. Quickest place I could get onto a rack. Asked what I owe and (after seeing my veteran plate, they asked what branch I served) and said no charge, thanks for your service.
