Good afternoon,

This afternoon I had filed up with gas and the first stop light I came to my car started to dip its idling speed every 10 seconds or so. I thought maybe I got some bad gas, but when it turned green I continued on my way with no issues and ran completely normally. . When I got home I decided to hookup my code reader and found three codes on it. P061A, P018C, and P008A. After reading the description online I think they are all related. Any ideas what this could be caused from? I have just under 60k miles.

I cleared the codes, will go out driving tomorrow and see if it comes back.

How much fuel was in the tank when you decided to fill up?
Just under half a tank.

Drove into work with no issues this morning. Everything ran just fine.

To be honest, I haven't checked for codes in about two years. But with yesterdays odd behavior at the stop light I thought I would check things out.

Update: P018C and P008A came back. Still no CEL (why is that?)

I found my LPFS that I bought a few years ago just in case...unfortunately it looks like its an off brand and I'm a little worried to use it now. Part # 3LFS0021 PG21C-MX12 I could have sworn I got it from CJPP, but the box says Dorman OE solutions

Get the OEM LPFS, and look into replacing your evap purge valve while you are at it

I can confirm that replacing the LPFS has corrected codes: P018C, and P008A

Unfortunately P061A still persists

I believe that the "Check Engine" light only illuminates if the DTC is emissions related. Why some engine related DTCs are considered emissions related and other are not I can't say. But since I don't what any of the above codes refer to I'm guessing they're NOT emissions related faults. Once you know what the faults relate to it might make sense.

Also, some codes are not actual "Fault" codes but "Pending Fault" codes. Pending fault codes set the "Check Engine" light in cars from some manufacturers but not all manufacturers. If these are "Pending Faults" that might also explain it. Most of the DIY OBD II scanners (& the ones at the auto parts stores use) don't discriminate between actual Faults and Pending Faults (or Historical Faults). So to be sure that these codes are actual fault codes you'll need a professional scanner or you'll have to take the car to a shop that has a professional scanner. $$

That explains one mystery. But I would prefer the light to come on for any problem

So I have corrected two of the codes with a new low pressure fuel sensor.

P061A seems to be coming back - but randomly. Its been about two weeks since I last cleared it. Before that, I got about a week and a half before it decided to come back. But before the second to last clearing, it was coming back almost every day. I wonder if it is somehow temperature related.

According to Google P061A is a "Torque Monitoring Fault":

"OBD-II code P061A indicates an internal control module torque performance issue, meaning the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected a problem with the engine's torque monitoring system."

I have no idea what this means. You can check the entire Google entry for it. It doesn't sound fun.

I believe that after you reset codes it takes 3 "driving cycles" for the computer to illuminate the "Check Engine" light again if the fault is still present. A "driving cycle" varies by manufacturer. I'm not sure what Ford's definition is but I'm sure you can find it if you Google it. This may explain why it doesn't reset the light the fist time you drive the car after resetting codes.

Oooo!!! I wonder if it has anything to do with the Drive Settings: "Normal, Sport, Snow, Track". Try changing the Drive setting and see if has any effect on the DTC. I use the Snow setting when I tow my trailer because it applies power to the wheels less aggressively than normal mode or sport mode.
