the fear is that they will start pricing these cars out of normal people hands and into collector hands who have money just laying around....
some want these cars but have families, and now we are forced to buy the base model mustang just because we have a family ($30k compared to $60k for smaller payments), but as the CAFE regulations take hold the big muscle car as we know will become "specialty" cars like the Mach 1, or the GT500, etc and will be limited production and also will be expensive. granted ALL cars have become expensive nowadays but almost like they are trying to satisfy the top 10% and not the 90% that the company was built on....
i love mustangs and have 2 now, i would like another one. but with everything in life you have to make a choice and live with that choice.
i will try and pay off my Ford Edge in order to have a payment for the new Mach 1, and if not i will find a reasonably priced Boss 302 or an older 2004 Mach 1 and have my mustangs....
i have 3 choices (maybe 4) right now what i want, just need to find the right "fit" for me and go with that.

aside from the "shaker" or other details that i felt should have been on the car, i do believe it is a nice looking car....and im sure it will be faster than my Boss....but thats what happens every hear, HP increases, handling gets better, heck i bet my Edge ST can out-handle some of the older mustangs from yesteryear with similar power, and i can put my whole family in comfortably. (car seats and all)
still, i would love to be able to go back to mid 60's when the muscle car era was booming and see what it was like then....
im trying to get my kids interested in cars to keep the industry alive and to appreciate what they have or what they will get one day.....

Honestly the regular 18 up GT is much quicker than your Boss (stock for stock).

may not be as special though. I’m sure the Mach E will be faster too, I don’t think that was his point.

That statement needs an asterisk, a big asterisk.

The Mach E will be faster*

*At full charge, with the batteries at the perfect temperature, under ideal conditions, when the moon is in the 7th house, and only on the first/second run. After that, it is slower than an Ecoboost with half a ton of potato salad in the trunk.
Hahahah Gosh I wish the Mach E wasn’t a Mustang, oh well just gotta deal with Ford bean counters marketing pitch. At least it’s not called the Mach 1 anymore and they made the Mach 1 have a gas motor

What is wrong with "parts bin model"?
If you think about it, It is a Ford mustang (not Shelby) made up of "tested/reliable" gt350 parts.
Plus, 2021 is the last MY of S550, which means Mach-1 will get all the refined power train and suspension set up from the data they gathered for more than 5 years.
My guess is Mach-1 will be the ultimate S550 model. (apart from Shelby)

Isn't 2022 the last MY of the S550?

Nothing is wrong with a parts bin car, the original Cobra Jet mustang was cobbled together by a dealership way back in 68, they took a mustang GT with a 390 and yanked it out and replaced it with a 428.

Actually 2022 is the last year of the S-550's

You wrote “...can be had from the factory...” Does an A10 GT come from the factory with a flex tune?
It does not. But with one, a base A10 GT could probably stomp a Mach 1. Maybe without, considering weight.

Maybe you missed my point, I think, that the two are too close in power. My wish was that the factory power output would have been squarely between the Bullitt and GT350. That would have been the sweet spot, IMO.

There is nothing wrong with a parts bin car, especially if you are pulling the parts from the right bins. A lot of mustang guys like to bash the camaro for being a parts bin car....they pulled parts from some really good bins if you ask me.

Right a Camaro is a parts bin car with many shared parts with a Corvette. Same goes with a Subaru STI/WRX, BRZ/86, Golf R, Audi S3, etc, etc. If not none of these specialty models would even exist. It makes no financial sense for a company like Ford. They are in the business of making money and we are lucky to even get these types of cars. Look at what Toyota is doing with BMW just to bring a sports car (Supra) back to the lineup. In the future we will likely see more partnerships for sports cars because of the volumes and profit margins.

Agreed, look at the 10R80. Also Ford & VW.

What would stop a Mach I from having the same Flex Fuel tune?

Not a thing. But the Mach should have the snort to outrun a tuned GT in stock form, in my eyes. Then any tune on the Mach increases the gap.

I wanted special sauce, and it ain't there.

The original Mustang was a Ford Falcon with new sheet metal, so parts bin cars are nothing new. The Mustang P-51 was a A-36 which was a good ground support aircraft, but when the Packard Merlin replaced the Allison, and some added fuel tanks installed, it became the best long range escort of WW2.
