I tried that in my VW a few times and getting out of gear was easy, but I had a hard time getting into gear, so I only did it a few times. Seems like upshifting in the Mustang should be easy since the car already rev matches for us, but I haven't tried it.

Yeah, this. The problem is just, well...doing it correctly, heh. Most of the time you're still going to at least cause a bit more wear to the gears than you would using the clutch normally. But hey, if the clutch goes ****-up on you all of a sudden and you can't get a tow, sometimes needs must.
Unfortunately if your clutch kicks the bucket there will be no friction to transmit power to the transmission. So, unless your flywheel somehow welds to whatever is left of your clutch, this technique won't help you. Now if the throw out bearing or pedal breaks on you, then yea this will help

Oh.....

Actually it should not hurt anything if done correctly, in big rigs ( 18 wheelers ) we use the same technique.
Oh how I hate BIG RIGS........ There always in your way, two trucks side by side going up a small grade, and one can can not get around the other one, but they will stay side by side for miles, while the traffic is backed up behind them........ Darn Darn :frusty:

People have been doing this in cars for years as a faster form of power shifting. In a race you dont have to do it slow it works under high RPM and cuts shift times way down. We had a thread on this a while back on here and nobody seemed to believe me that you could shift these cars without the clutch...

Very good point.

He'll be using those kleenex on the passenger side once he really screws up the transmission

Funnily enough I still drive a manual and have a manual GT V8 on order. My knee might regret that, especially as I'm getting on.
In that case, I would suggest not removing the clutch pedal assist spring like a lot of guys here are doing.

Thanks. Having only sat in a showroom GT over here, I found the clutch surprising light but obviously didn't get a chance to get the feel of it but being that most of our cars and vans are manuals with a bewildering amount of where they bite, I'm pretty sure I'll be ok with the spring.

I hope so. Looking like I might get my GT just before Christmas.

I've left my clutch pedal spring installed, and I have no problem moving off from a dead stop or making good gear changes. Might take you a day or two to calibrate your leg to the clutch, then you'll be a pro.
