So I was told I should not be using a 160 degree thermostat on a street car. What is everyone's opinion on this?

It works very well on our cars when tuned properly.

Just checking because I was told that by the tuner when I received my new tune for the thermostat.

The Reische 170 works much better than the 160.

I find that ridiculous. I have seen the posts where people are claiming that. I think they had air in their system. My 160 is working perfect since day one.

How exactly do you install a thermostat? I have ordered the Reische 170, but I can't seem to find any videos regarding the installation. Or is it too simple and I'm just a noob?

I am one of the people who can say with 100% certainty the Reische works better than the even flow. I had the even flow installed since February and put the Reische in last week and I saw a drop in CHT by 20° the very first time I drove it and it's been consistently lower EVERY time I drive it.

No air bubbles, no nothing it works better and that's all there is to it.

There are several threads about how to do it, very easy but could be messy depending how you do it.

One method is to take off the pan under the front of the car, a whole lot of clips and bolts, then you drain the radiator from the petcock on the right side of the radiator. I did it like this once and it was draining fine until I opened the cap to the overflow bottle then it came streaming out so fast it missed my bucket and I lost about a QT of fluid.

The next time I just used a hose clamp (looks like vise grips that have flat teeth then squeeze the hose coming from the bottom of the radiator, I used an extra large ziplock bag that I got from Ace Hardware to catch any fluid coming out of the connection where the TStat is located. You loosen the two 8mm bolts on the hosing just below and to the right of the throttle body that has the bottom hose connected to it. The thermostat is inside of that hosing pull it out along with the gasket. If you have the 170 you wont need the gasket.

Hope that helps.

lol nobody said the 160 doesn't work

He's just saying the Reische 170 performs better, as in gets cooler temps than the 160.

Easiest way to install the theromstat is to use a hose clamp. I didn't have to remove the pan or lift my car. Took 30 mins and barely lost any fluid.

I will post pics later.

You sir are correct!!!

I have used both and the Reische 170 runs cooler then the Even Flo 160. The ones that like the 160 probably have not tried the 170 or they have a vested stake in selling the Even Flo. The ones that have tried them both prefer the 170.

Spot on my friend

I'd be willing to bet the ones who still use the even flow would also notice an improvement if they took the time to swap.

Threw my even flow right in the trash and not because it's junk, just because knowing what I know I will never want it back in again.
